Unfortunately, all the food here is nothing special, Hostess cakes are pure carbs, which actually help you gain weight, they are cheap and if you have problems with weight or self-control you will have more than 1 pack (3 cupcakes), so it is not the best solution. Progresso soups are absolutely tasteless and if you look at the nutrition info you will understand why - they wanted to reduce calories to minimum so they had to take out everything from this soup. Result is - tasteless soup with 60 calories per serving, which is so tiny, that you will probably eat 2 or 3 servings just to stop being hungry. The rest is not really a discovery, small oat snacks have always been good for health, cheap and low in calories, tofu is a well known source of proteins, low in calories, too. With ice cream, unfortunately, the less fat it contains the worse its taste is... Taking out the fat you actually take out the richness of the ice cream texture... but if somebody likes frozen ice Edy's would be their best choice. And also I would like to say that Conncat is absolutely right by calling all this food a junk (except for tofu, but that's my personal opinion). It is real junk and the calories are reduced for those who can't stop eating and need to feel a little bit less guilty for consuming a lot of food and not being able to control themselves. However, same people would (like I said earlier) eat more than one serving and 100 calories or 300 calories won't really change the picture for them.

I agree with the people who say that most people who commented here are being somewhat irrational. You don't need to bite off the heads of the people who spent hours fixing up this site for people to read. The foods listed here are for snacks. They are not for everyday food items. Yes, the soup may be high in sodium, but you can easily dilute it by adding some water. It does say on many soup labels to add the can full of water to the soup. All in all, I love cupcakes and 100 calorie packs and icecream!!! So, keep posting more low cal food items, please!!!

read a few comments and some people made a point by saying that these foods are here, because HG wants us to substitute full calorie cakes for example with 100 calorie cakes, and I got a question, why she writes articles about junk food then??? Or do we have nothing to talk about on this site, but junk food?? Maybe she could write how to mak something tasty as junk fod and healthy as normal food. Also, I want to add that american eating habits remind me more of Soviet Union during WW2: tons of bread and thin slice of meat, just like there is nothing to eat but bread, biscuits and brownies. So instead of trying to let us know about "healthy" junk food, please write more about just healthy food that we can make ourselves and about eating habits of other countries, since america is known for its absense of culture when it comes to eating...

Awful stuff, blech! Very lame and misleading. I've never seen a more uninspired, boring collection of things to eat. I'm sorry but, for the vast majority low-fat, low-cal is a dreadful, unrealistic way to live and completely unnecessary if one simply eats whatever they desire IN MODERATION, along with LOTS OF FRUITS & VEGGIES, and EXERCISE REGULARLY! And no, you don't have to waste your money by joining any rip-off snotty health clubs. Simple walking for 30 minutes 3X per week is a great start. Take a couple of those soup cans and do some curls standing up and lying down. Try touching your toes, do basic stretching. Take the stairs instead of escalators & elevators whenever possible. Use your imagination, or buy a fitness video tape or dvd and follow along. JUST GET OFF THE SOFA AND AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER AND GET YOUR BUTT MOVING!!! There is no magic bullet for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, people. And whatever else you do, stay away from OTC diet pills (very dangerous!) and don't be fooled by this list of processed UNHEALTHY snacks or others like them. It's pure garbage, empty calories, with the exception of the soup, although it has too much sodium for my comfort level. Off my soapbox ... Have a peaceful Holiday season :o)

I'm all for people having the right to eat what they choose. Personally I don't eat splenda, drink diet beverages etc. because they are not food. I would be mad if someone fed it to me without my knowledge. If you think of cakes and candy as treats to be savored with pleasure on holidays and special occasions the way our grandparents did, then who cares about the amount of sugar.

I think it is really ridiculous when people get down on prepackaged low calorie, low fat foods. Why don't you expend your energy campaigning against smoking, or alcohol or drug abuse. Or the damaging effects of media hype on food/nutrition, who cares if KFC is trans fat free when it is still full of other kinds of unhealthy fats!!! what we put into our bodies is about a lot more than just food. just my 2 cents

40 years ago, most adult Americans smoked cigarettes. Now they know that cigarettes kill, so many have stopped smoking. Look around you, next time you're in a crowd. How many over-weight people do you see? Americans are now eating themselves to death. Childhood obesity is the worst! Anything anyone can do to change this deserves to be heard. We are not doing our families a favor, sticking to the old recipes. Thanks, HG, for some great ideas!

I agree with most all the comments!! I myself used to weigh 215 pounds and now I currently weigh 105! I worked very hard and the key is NO CARBS! The pounds fall off! Keep this phrase in the back of your mind! You are what you eat! Never again am I going down that road!!! The key is...life style change!! Dont eat cookies and candy! They are bad bad! And if you must make sure you do a 60 minute work-out before hand! Happy Holidays and to all of us and all our dieting tricks! cheers~!

Whoa whoa whoa. Sure, a lot of this stuff might be processed. But Dear Lord, give the woman a break! These are alternatives for crying out loud! I try to eat as much whole, unprocessed foods as possible. But I'm sorry, during that one moment where I am craving chocolate cake & don't want to blow my whole diet, yes, call the police, I am going to eat 3 processed Hostess chocolate cakes. Oh my goodness.... alert the military.... Give me a break, people! Geez!

I think you all need to get a life Push away from your keyboards or laptops, get off of your fat back sides and get some freaking exercise. Instead you sit on your PC's with drool running out of the corners of your mouth because you are talking food.

If it comes down to it. And you fall off the diet finatic band wagon I'd rather eat a 100 calorie cupcake than a real one. It's a good option for few and far between. Unfortunately I'm a fat kid, love to eat. And it's not very few and far between. It's all the time. :)

Although I do strive to eat healthy with fresh unprocessed foods, but like many, sometimes you just crave a little junk. These items can fill the need and you can feel a little less guilty. Thanks for the insight!

I can't believe these people try to pass this crap off as healthy! You list the nutritional value, now how about the Ingredients! You are better off eating a dark, semi-sweet chocolate bar! Try dipping that in a little All-Natural peanut butter where the only ingredient on the jar is peanuts!

I don't want to bash low calorie meals. I started out a diet assuming all low calories foods are healthy. I now eat whole wheat and items such as that that are nutritionally beneficial. Many things in low cal foods aren't very healthy, such as lard in the hostess cakes.

To everyone saying this is garbage just eat fruit and veggies need to stop and think and look at this list realistically. While yes fruit and veggies are by far the best snacks and additions to a meal, for most Americans swapping out their high calorie snack for a 100 calorie snack pack or pop chips is a great start. Many Americans either don’t have the time or the know how or will to just eat veggies so if they are going to eat a quick meal, it mind as well be with those noodles or low fat soup rather than the high fat version they would have eaten in the first place. These are a good replacement for many of the foods people eat on a daily basis.

Well for those among us who enjoy food and like to eat food that actually tasts good.... those people and their baby carrots and soy sauce not included... are delighted to have good tasting alternatives to the food that they love without the expansion of their waist. And for me thats heaven eating good tasting, lower calorie versions of the foods that i find appealing and WANT to eat

The sodium is very high, not good for us high blood pressure people, anything that is low fat is high priced. How about the government putting a task committee together for the health of the nation...and coming up with a nutritionally sound diet of products for interested citizens..with a value that we can all appreciate:)

I would not suggest the Fiber One bars to anyone with a sensitive stomach. The chicory in the bars can cause a lot of bloating and gas for hours afterwards! They do taste good though.

I am a type 2 diabetic, and appreciate having a treat once in a while, I might have something "100 calorie" a couple times a month, I do enjoy sugar free jello and pudding, but even that is not an every day thing, I do think that kids need more fresh vedgies and fruit, not treats from a box or bag...
