Qi - the word for balance. a little bit of everything. what I like about working at where I do is the vegetables are absolutely fresh. that and we can make things lower fat by only using the natural fats from the foods to keep them from sticking to our grill. what I don't like is how much starch manufacturers use in the premade stuff. and the sauces for the chicken strips are completely fake! on the other hand, our apple pie is the healthiest thing next to our salads. and it's deep fried. surprised? not me. maybe it's just the fact it's real apple.

Most of these suggestions are really informative, except the Ruby Tuesdays one. Their salad bar is chock full of ingredients that I'm sure are MUCH worse than a little butter on your broccoli (i.e. dressings, croutons, sunflower seeds, pepperoni, etc.). Just "opting for the salad bar" isn't really sufficient advice, you have to be smart about what you're putting on your salad!

This isn't a great article. First off, 500 calories isn't that bad for the Ruby T's meal. Adding a baked potato with salsa? Wow, that's both unappealing and high calorie. People are neurotic enough about their food. Better off cooking at home, and then if you want some high calorie ice cream, go out get it. Just don't eat more than 1/2 a cup. If you have to eat a salad out...well, everyone knows that salad dressing and crispy chicken and bacon aren't low-cal, even if they're sitting on top of some lettuce. Come on, tell us something that's actually useful and interesting.

how How HOW does one permanently cut down on portion size?? I'm eating healthier nutritional food, yet find it hard to cut down sizes! Any tips?........
Let's not forget about all the toxic preservatives that are on the vegetables and all the ingredients that are in the dressings themselves that are labeled artificial and natural flavors (to which the FDA says the manufacturer does not have to define). The only way to eat healthy is to avoid anything fast food-ish and to buy from your local market, and make your own dressing - from scratch.

HG can be interesting, but they really push hard for their advertisers products. Those Vitamuffin things that had the lead banner for forever are NASTY. I enjoy HG because its trendy, but they are about as "fair and balanced" as Fox News is.

thanks for the heads up and the alternatives. It's very hard to find truly "healthy" fast foods. And, to eat healthy when eating out isn't always very easy.

To lose weight, eat as much fat as you can, and avoid the carbs. The establishment doesn't want you to hear this because obesity it very profitable. How many more years can they get away with the low-fat diet lie?

Making food choices based on what something doesn't have (i.e. fat, cholesteral, carbs) is insanity. To make my point: There's a product out there with no carbs, no fat, no sugar, no cholesterol and people who use it swear it helps them stay thin. It's called Cigarettes. Eating low-fat, low cholesterol, etc is NOT healthy if that is what you focus on. Eat a variety of fresh, whole foods and EXERCISE regularly and you will not have any weight issues. All the dieting info is nothing but a sucker's game. The only thing it will lighten is wallet. And if you think eating regularly at any fast-food joint can be done in a healthy manner then you are truly lost.
