I dressed up as Jim Morrison two years ago & it was a great idea! I am a very humble guy but my appearance definitly drew interest ;) I was able to pull it off because my hair is similar, only a little shorter. I think Willy Wonka is a cool idea too.

i just stick to the sexy standards--cat, nurse, gypsy, witch, naughty teacher, she-devil etc--the old stand-by's...but these are cute--our friends used to do celebrity couple themes--like jack white with blondie, joey ramone with janis joplin, any prez w/ marilyn or jackie--easy and fun

Dress as a Yankees fan at the playoffs. You save money on this costume because you don't even have to go to the party. Plus you can catch the newest episode of Numb3rs.

These are wonderful ideas, and yes, some might be "classics" but those who get it will appreciate it. I love the Audrey Hepburn idea! Instead of going as a slutty version of whatever, why not put some originality into your costume? I hate how Halloween automatically means show off your boobs. I went as Uma Therman's character from Pulp Fiction last year and won best costume at the restaurant I worked at. If you've got your goods hanging out you might have people look at you but if you go as something that takes imagination you won't be forgotten.

Some people are so funny .. they take the time to sign in to Yahoo! and post a comment .. just to gripe about the time they wasted .. LOL!
In any event, I agree that some of these would be rather difficult to pull-off as people would ask what/who you were and you would have to explain. I would just stick to the basics .. what guy doesn't love a sexy nurse or school teacher??

But I always come with "a tuxedo, a snazzy men's watch, a sleek cell phone, and oh yeah, a chilled martini in hand." How is this going to be a costume for me?

I work for a crappy grocery store chain in Tennessee. A few weeks ago I was looking at some lame halloween costumes that we were sending to the stores. One of them was a Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within(way back form 2001) costume. Thta who I am going for this halloween.

Wow... those are such terrible recommendations it boggles the mind. I mean, yeah, they work, but they're just so obtuse. Carrie from Sex and the City? You mean, dress like an upper-middleclass New York socialite? Yeah, that's not painfully vague. That's like saying "Dress like Spider-man alterego, Peter Parker!" "Really? What does he wear?" "Regular clothes!" "Brilliant! I'll be the toast of the town!"

the only one anyone will get is maybe the Audrey Hepburn costume, IF they've seen the move and if it's done exactly right, down to the poufy updo and the makeup. As for the Willy Wonka costume, a long purple overcoat is going to make you look like Prince.

!!! how can i get a job as an advice columnist!! These are the worst ideas for costumes. the defenition of a costume is to dress as something other than yourself... sex and the city? 007? audrey hepburn give me a break. this society is losing imagination, creativity or its just getting lazy. Yahoo! please do a better job in your hiring department!

I went as Amy Winehouse a year ago, It was great, She has so many signature items in her look that everyone knew that I was being her. I mean the teased hair, the eye shadow, the pin-up girl tattoos, It was almost too easy.

Why do I even bother to read yahoo anymore, crap as usual.
When I was a kid we were usually pretty broke so we made up our costumes. A ripped up sheet for bandages or somethin', some gelatin, fake blood and cotton balls to make scabs and ripped skin, some old makeup me and my bro would jack from mom and we made hella costumes with nothing but our imagination.
This column, as usual, coming from yahoo, is crap.

Things like the usual standbys are boring, though; these costumes sound like a lot of fun! It reminds me of cosplay (dressing up as characters from japanese cartoons and comics) a bit...
