5 Fun Ways To Land A Date

Posted Mon, Aug 18, 2008, 1:36 am PDT
POST A COMMENT »
There are the obvious ways to land a date -- online services, personal ads, and everyone's favorite...getting fixed up by your mom! But there are a lot more ways to meet your match. Here are some ideas on adding a little spice to your social life.

  • Coffee Crushes  Hang out at a coffee shop with a compelling book. A good page-turner will get you noticed and let people know that you're A) intelligent and B) interested in something other than Dr. Phil.
  • Puppy Love  Hit the dog-park with a can of tennis balls and the ultimate wing-man, an adorable dog. Dogs are irresistible and outgoing -- a natural ice breaker. If you don't have a dog, offer to take a friend's for an outing (it's not cheating unless you pretend the mutt is yours!).
  • Musical Duets  Browse through a music store. You never know when you might connect with someone who shares common tastes and interests in music. If you see a cute guy or gal perusing your section, simply ask or comment about the band they're checking out and see where the conversation takes you.
  • Good Company  Group outings -- whether a ballgame, the beach, or a local street festival -- are low-pressure ways to meet new romantic potentials. Start with a small group of friends and have everyone invite a couple people from outside the circle. As the group grows, so does the fun factor, and the chance of a possible date.
  • Aisle Affairs  Say "I do" to weddings! Not only are they fun, joyous occasions, but they can also be the ideal setting to meet someone special (except not in that cheap Wedding Crashers kind of way). That goes for any social gathering. Accept invitations to events that bring you in touch with people outside your social circle -- birthday celebrations, co-ed showers, holiday soirees, barbeques, and so on.

You never know when or where you might meet someone interesting, so get creative...but most importantly get out there!

My cousin came to my wedding in old jeans (from about1975), a tee shirt that looked and smelled like Axl Rose used it to wash his tour bus, an old "grizzly adams" style hat that looked more like the grizzly wore it, and the coup de gras, a ratty old pair of Birkenstocks..... He also smelled like he had been living in a dumpster for about a month... EW! I could not believe he showed up like that! -

Whatever you do... Don't be a no show! It will leave an impression far worse than crappy clothing. If you care, let it show... If you don't, it probably already does...... Keith

I think all the above is good advice. I have been in enough weddings to know including three in which I was the groom :-)

A music store? When I am involved in finding music for myself or for my students, I might not notice if some stranger sneaked up and kissed me! (Well, maybe that's not exactly true.) On second thought, I guess you meant a place that sells CDs? That would be Barnes & Noble for me; and you are right: Lots of friendly customers there!

I find most of my dates in strip clubs. But they never seem to blossom into wonderful relationships. I guess I just have bad luck.

You can't all be serious. Dates in strip clubs. Aren't they all addited to something? Also, cowboy boots aren't acceptable with a formal tux. If it is a coutry wedding then I guess, if you must go for it. SCARY MARY had a redneck baby....HAHA

Good lord, people. Lighten up a little on the whole "music store" thing. Yes.. a MUSIC STORE. A place that sells MUSIC on various mediums. The term "music store" is just the generic, catch-all term for such stores. Ease up a bit and don't be so snotty over something so simple. Might have better luck with those dates too.

Wow, here in Austin, yes, the capital of Texas...we do have things actually called music stores, that sell music...cds, instruments, sheet music, and the odd record or two. Nice place to bump into people, even the nicely dressed ones that may possibly have on *gasp* boots. Unfathomable. Smile, say something nice, and ask out for coffee, might see someone at the coffee shop reading a good book. Two-fer!

I love meeting & dating women but sometimes I get nervous & pee in my pants. When this happens, they leave for good. I don't understand why. It's out of my control. And sometimes there was a real connection.

I prefer a man with boots, NICE boots. In Texas you have pretend cowboys, real cowboys, and caballeros (gentlemen). The quality, and care, of the boots says alot.
