Ah, summer -- the hot-n-happening season when social calendars get packed with outdoor gatherings and flamin' hot barbecues. We love simple backyard get-togethers, and here's a style guide to keeping your primp time just as simple. So, don't just throw on any old pair of shorts and a worn-out tank top. Here are our favorite casual and cool ways to score compliments at the Q!

Gals:

The Other Denim
Jeans can feel a bit heavy on ultra warm days. Instead, try a casual denim skirt with a short sleeved or sleeveless white linen blouse (untucked). Embellished flat sandals or comfy espadrille wedges finish it off.

The Cotton Craze
Slip on an empire-waist or tank-style t-shirt dress with a pair of metallic thong sandals.  The metallic gives a bit of edge and pop (rather than the usual rubber flip-flops). You can also layer a contrasting tank under the dress for a bit of flair.

Halter-Ego
Look effortlessly chic in a pair of white, black, or tan capri pants with a colorful hip-length halter top and flats or embellished sandals.

Guys:

Beach Club Breezy
Just-above-the-knee cargo shorts in a rugged tan or brown, along with a breezy white linen button-down worn untucked with the sleeves rolled up is a great look for guys. Finish it off with woven or thong-style leather sandals.

Canvas Can Be Cool
Any guy will look smokin' in dark-wash jeans and a fitted hip-length tee (crew-neck or polo-style depending on your tastes). Go for a shirt with a bit of color -- not basic white -- and some slip-on canvas sneakers.

Preppy But Hip
Khakis are always a classic. Hip them up a bit with a long, sleek v-neck tee and canvas or leather flip-flops.

And before you slip on your stylish duds and head off for an afternoon of beer and burgers, make sure you've got gorgeous tootsies -- treat yourself to a pedicure before the BBQ fest begins!
