Party Away The Winter Blahs

We all suffer from the winter blahs from time to time, so there's no better time to find an excuse to throw a party! Whether it's a winter movie marathon, ice skating party, snowman contest, or gourmet soup buffet, heat up the cold and blustery months with a little fun.

  • Invite friends and family to show off their figure 8's and Hamill's Camels (or fall as gracefully as possible on their behinds) during an afternoon of ice skating. After everyone has gotten their fill of the chill, retire back to your pad and indulge in a deluxe hot cocoa bar. Offer a variety of chocolate flavors, along with embellishments like liqueurs, flavored whipped creams, and gourmet marshmallows. Cozy up around the fireplace and sip away!
  • If Mother Nature cooperates and showers you in snow, invite everyone over for an impromptu party and snowman building contest. Offer a fun prize for whoever can build the most irresistible and unique man (or woman) out of snow.
  • Throw a "winter white" spin on beach party. Decorate with white paper lanterns and glass vases filled with white sand and bamboo. Serve pina coladas garnished with a skewer of cranberries. Have fun coming up with white decorations, drinks, and foods that have a summery feel, and mix them with wintery accents.
  • When the thermometer starts to nosedive, nothing hits the spot like a big, bubbling pot of soup. Throw a potluck Soup 'n Chili dinner and have everyone bring their favorite version. All you need to provide is bread and bowls -- what could be easier?!
  • Whether you're throwing a cocktail party or weekend brunch, fill your home with unexpected seasonal touches. Instead of poinsettias, decorate with peonies. Print pictures of vintage ski and travel posters from places like St. Moritz and use them as table decorations. Or you can laminate them and use as coasters. Plenty of images are available through a quick search online. Use your imagination to create a winter wonderland!

Great ideas! Now, I wish I had snow in NJ! Maybe, we should plan a margarita party!
