I found some great info on saving money from home in this youtube how-to and the blog it referred to. Everything from homemade laundry detergent, mystery shopping for Longhorns, product testing at home, focus groups for Lenscrafters, economical menus, free samples from Walmart, etc., etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofWGLvtWkjM If you tried a few of the ideas in this video/blog, you would find your financial situation changing like ours has. The info is GREAT!

Lol... I don't know a single guy or girl who would want any of those gifs... EVER. Maybe the underwear is appropriate for girls - like if the boyfriend is getting them, otherwise it's just weird an inappropriate, not to mentioned expensive. Who spends $18 on a pair of ugly panties?

My husband knows better than to buy me a thong. Not that I don't appreciate sexy undies, but I can do without the constant wedgie.

I just wanted to make a quick comment about size related gifts, such as underwear and shoes (both mentioned on this list). These are completely unacceptable no matter what type of social circle you run in. No one, especially female, wants to have to assume that you ever thought about what size of underwear she wears. It's inconsiderate to presume a person's size, especially when it comes to clothing. Also, why would you waste twenty dollars on a pair of overpriced flip flops for kids when they might not even be the right size? It's not really a gift if the person has to stand in line at the mall with their kid in tow to exchange the shoes for the right size. If you really can't think of anything that doesn't come in one size fits all, you should probably consider a gift card.

if you really cant think of something to get someone for their birthday that fits their personality, you probably shouldnt feel obligated to get them anything anyway

Why not make your own then buy a card. Its very special when someone does that. Its under 20.00 dollars. Save money and live better. But if you like to get them something than i recommend bath and body works for women. And tool box or something that the guys like to work with outside. Thanks

Many of these ideas are helpful and economical. However, in my opinion the suggestion of giving a woman thong underwear is ONLY appropriate for a husband to do and then only in cases when he's actually checked with her first that she'd even want this gift. (Why assume she even wants to wear thongs, no matter how "comfortable"?). And I agree with the other commenter about footwear too - unless one is definitely sure of the right size... Homemade or storebought cards are always good. And, gift certificates to stores that carry items of interest. Also- handmade gifts, such as decorated picture frames, or an album of pictures put together, or a CD of specially mixed songs...All of these could work if one wants or needs to save even more money and still give a personal gift.
