Happy Donuts on De Anza Blvd. in San Jose has the BEST donuts I've ever had! If you like donuts made the old-fashioned way, a robust cup of coffee, and a corner-store feel, this is a great place to go!

I'm in Houston and while Shipley's is good, to me, they can't compare to Square Donuts. The donuts are actually square in shape and they have a slightly different glaze than Shipley's. For my money, those are better than Shipley's or Dunkin Donuts or Southern Maid or even Mary Lee.

Kansas City has a great local family owned doughnut place...Lamars Doughnuts. They are delicious and served warm and fluffy.

Please don't overlook The Moose is Loose Bakery in Soldotna, Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula! They have donuts the size of your head with wonderful chocolate frosting, Moose-strudels and wonderful walnut sticky buns...the best, I think, Alaska has to offer!

Apparenlty the critics never made its way up towards Mt. Hood. In s leepy town of Sandy is Bob's Doughnuts. Red and white checkboard store that beats out Krusty Cream and Dunkin hands down! They have cherry and rasbeery friters and glazed rings that melt in you mouth.

If you're ever in Rochester, NY, 2 places for great donuts are Buckman's Bakery and Ridge Donut Cafe. Buckman's used to be my favorite, but one taste from Ridge Donut vaulted them to the top!

I noticed a lack of Nebraska's two great doughtnut shops. The Donut Stop(on 13th) and Pettit's Bakery (right by Sol's, downtown) are where you can find the best fritters this side of the Mississippi!

In the Baltimore-Washington area, the Giant grocery chain used to have the best jelly donuts I have ever tasted. Then they stopped making their own donuts and started stocking Krispy Kreme. Some KK flavors (glazed chocolate cake) are delicious, but the jelly donuts taste exactly the way you would think a publicly traded company would make jelly donuts - long on shareholder value and short on jelly.

I am from Portland Oregon so I am excited to see Voodoo Donuts on your list. However, it seems you completly skipped over San Francisco. Jump over to Bob's Donuts on Polk st between California and Washington. They are open 24hrs a day and it is best to catch them at 12am when their fritters come right out of the fryer. If you become regular, they might even give you a glass of milk as you pony up to the bar and watch the movie you just brought in.
