There are quite a few Daylight Donuts here in OK also, they're really good. In fact, before Krispy Kreme arrived, that was the ONLY place to go! Now we have choices, they both have their good qualities.

What about Mary Lee's in Houston,TX? It is an awesome mom and pop donut shop with great cinnamon twists and kolaches. And the one my Dad took me to as a kid had a drive thru.
Another Houston favorite of mine is Shipley's and Southern Maid. Southern Maid's ham and cheese kolaches are simply awesome.
Ed Levine, if you want to try them I will ship some to you when I visit Houston again in July.

I have never found a donut that was better than Holland Farms Bakery on Oriskany Blvd In Whitesboro NY. Fresh made daily and all day long. I could stop before work and pick up a dozen still warm from the oven. My favorite the classic Cake donut with cinnamon sugar or plain. They also have to die for coconut macaroons the size of your fist, either coated in chocolate or plain.

Great American Doughnut Shop in Bowling Green, Ky has some really great doughnuts. They are always moist and they have very reasonable prices. Plus they stay open 24 hrs a day, seven days a week.

I am both flabbergasted and appalled that "Mustang Donuts" near the SMU campus in Dallas and "Winchell" in Pasadena are not mentioned. The good test of a donut is if you hold it by one side and it doesn't droop it doesn't have enough grease. The grease should coat your mouth and throat when eaten with a glass of milk.

I cannot believe that y'all did not go to TEXAS. I LOVE Gates Bakery in Corpus Christi, TX. (where Im from). They have been around for many years and have not touched their recipe. Y'all need to come on down to Texas.
