I still think Pace hot salsa is the best for spice, but Riverwalk from San Antonio has the best flavor, just have not found it in the hot version yet.

All of those tested salsas suck. Kudos to those who mentioned El Pinto (for one-half-decent bottled salsa - there are several other brands with real roasted tomatoes/onions/peppers/chili's with a good balance spices/flavors that don't rely on sweet additives to appeal to the soda pop drinking masses who like everything too sweet. Final note - what some call "hot", I call "mild". You can now return to your 54 oz.cokes and garbage fast food America.

I love Herdez...it's the best jarred salsa I've had thus far. Not a fan of Pace, Taco Bell, or overpriced salsa. If you can't make it yourself...try Herdez!

If they didn't like the green pepper in the one type they did taste, they weren't going to like Newman's Own. I like Pace myself. I've been in Mexican restaurants (not chain) whose salsa isn't any better and isn't any worse than Pace's. And I don't blame them tasting the Mild versions...those are the ones were the other flavors are going to be more obvious than the ones where the hot can disquise a lot.

we make our own at home with canned diced tomatoes, and all the fixings, I found HOT HERDEZ salsa casera at walmart recently and tried it, we LOVE it-next best thing to homemade. I took a jar to work also and let people try and they loved it too--so try it please

I see the jar of Newman's Own in the picture up top, but there was no taste test result for it. I really like the Newman's Own... I prefer it to the other jar salsas. I do agree that there is nothing compared to fresh garden salsa...mmmmm!!

This is really useless as a guide to the best jarred salsa, since there are a vast number of possibilities out there and you only chose 5 to test. I would be surprised if there were not many salsas out there superior to these clunkers. Come on - you can do better. And, gee, fresh ingredients taste better? DUH!

You did not try FRONTERA GRIL salsa, Rick at freontera is a Mexican with an American skin on him. The best salsa is FRONTERA: Shame on you for not trying it...

To the tasters: Pace was really built as a Picante Sauce. Not a Salsa. Pace must have felt they needed to join the crowd as the Salsa wave hit the kitchens. Picante Sauce never pretended to be a salsa, just a good hot dipper for chips.

Oh, Adam! What a bad KC native you are!! Margaritas is the BEST! There is no comparison. However, I am assuming you had to use national brands, and in that case, On the Border is pretty good, it at least beats the others in your comparison in the dust. IMHO, anyway.

I agree with Kokoro. What's up with the Newman's Own in the picture and no mention of it in the taste test??? I happen to think it is better than all of the others you, mentioned, except Herdez, I can't say since I haven't tried. I have tried a few of Newman's and for jar salsa I ain't hatin' it. I happen to LOVE salsa and mexican food however. So any salsa is usually better than none. Most people have a hard time making a good salsa with balance of taste and heat. So it is nice to find a good jar, yet I have trouble finding good mexican food here in the Northeast.

well I would have to say that all of you are wrong. the reason why I say it is because I prefer the homemade salsa there is nothing better then the homemade real mexican taste of a salsa. I am just saying that if you want to eat a good salsa it is better if you make your own...I have one I made that I call firey salsa awesome with everything even cheese..
