My Cardiologist told me as long as one does not exercise they only need one meal a day. Just turned 79, and exercise very little. I eat about anything I want and have went from 220 to 170. I do try to eat foods that are low to none when it comes to Cholesterol, and mine happens to be 143. I have been told it is best to keep your bad Colesterol (LDL) below 100, and as of the Jan. 7th mine is 87.8. It has in the past been lower. When it comes to fast foods today they put a slice of cheese on almost everything, and 1 slice contains 15mg of Cholesterol, and 2g of saturated fat.

NO SOUR CREAM! ITS NOT MEXICAN FOOD WITHOUT SOUR CREAM! AND SHE WIPED ALFREDO SAUCE TOO!
Someone needs to clue her in that these things are FINE in moderation, or with low-fat accompaniments.

Maggie, Your killing me with the Mexican Food how could I avoid the hot and spicy food.... Living in Texas that's all we eat.... How about substitue the flour tortillas for corn.. As for the pizza how about a thin crust (vegetarian). That should be okay!

One thing I wished had been mentioned was the usage of MSG- not only does it make some people violently ill, but it has extremely high sodium.
Another note- as long as you don't eat out every night, there's no reason you can't have the 'bad guys.' We all know there is never a better diet than eating good food IN SMALL PORTIONS and exercising regularly.

Why is it that commercially prepared food sold in stores that is listed as low fat or non-fat almost always has more sodium in it than the "regular" version of that food??? Just like when eating out, when you are in the store you can't just buy things by only considering one aspect of that food. You have to look at the number of calories and the amount of sodium, not just the amount or lack of amount of fat. As far as limiting the amount of times a week that you eat out - it sometimes just doesn't work that way.

I eat healthy but I also indulge. Moderation is definately the key!!!I grew up eating chicken breasts and all nonfatty cuts of meat so im used to it. Skip bread and butter with your meal is another good point. My grandma grew up in the depression so it was natural for her to load up on bread and potatos and she just couldnt give it up. Peperoni is one of the fattiest meats try chicken or thin slice black forestt ham.

Wow - you might as well just eat grass. Give me a break. It's called eating in moderation and practicing portion control. You can eat anything you want as long as it's within reason. And sour cream is not tasteless!!!!!

yesterday i got chipotle and i researched how many calories the tacos i liked had in them and the sour cream was like almost 200 calories in it alone so i cut that out and i didn't taste that much of a difference!

Just so you REALLY know - the "creamy goodness" of chicken korma is made with plain yogurt. A whole 17 oz. tub of plain yogurt contains about 200 calories, not the 900 per serving this so-called nutritionist claims. She obviously doesn't know her Indian recipes.

I hope to never see the phrase "empty calorie" ever again. It's nonsense. A calorie is a calorie. If the author wants to be taken seriously, she should avoid pop culture, junk science references.

Hi, Maggie - I read your article and I agree with everything except for eating a cheese-free pizza! After all, why bother eating that?! lol... My nutritionist recommends eating foods high in protein and avoiding foods with sugar and white flour.... Nice picture, by the way. ☺

Had a friend she ate healthy from day one parents were "health freaks" before it was the "in thing" to do she ran everyday dropped dead 1 block from her driveway at the ripe "old age" of 38. So much for health foods.

Other paradigms.
Where are the open minded health experts? Have they read any of the literature on low carbing? It DOES work for some people. Its GREAT for diabetics.
and SOUR CREAM was personally invented by GOD, low fat sour cream is of course from the devil himself.
Lady.... if diet was a racial issue you would be a bigot.
Offer at least ONE tip for us low carbing folk.. who can eat as much fat as we want... got it?
