I've found that low-cal, low-carb recipes help me lose weight. More than anything, it comes down to portion control. A lot of people eat whatever they want, but in moderation and still lose or maintain their weight. The recipes here look great, and you'd be surprised how food tastes when you prepare it yourself! You can add (or substitute) what you want, and make a recipe of your own. Great suggestions!

I am overweight and I will say this...these recipes will not help me lose weight. I have tried Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, etc, etc. I like the fact that they use natural ingredients in many cases. The only diet that truly helped me and I was 18 years old pre-hypo thyroid was counting calories. I let myself eat anything but the daily caloric intake had to be within 1200 calories.
Now, I am going to try something different with the 1200 calorie diet. My plan is to kick out all preservatives and what I call "fake" foods. That includes anything that says Low Fat, Reduced Fat, 100 calorie pack of chemically formulated Chips Ahoy, no carbs bread, and Fat Free. Why? Have you read the ingredients in Fat Free Cheddar Cheese or the no-carb bread? All those ingredients just do not look healthy. In fact, those ingredients look like they might give me cancer or something like that. And, I would not be surprised if those foods will cause you to gain more weight due to not only excess but the chemicals included within the product.
I say that if a product does not say something like...breast of chicken, dill, and whole wheat rice...it probably will kill you. Did anyone ever think that butter is OK within moderation unless you have a cholesterol problem? Or, a little suger (1tbps a day) is OK unless you are a diabetic?
Good luck everyone with this years weight loss and I hope that everyone gets down to your ideal weight. Man, this weight loss thing is hard.

the nutrition info of these tasty dishes are missing the sodium amounts. I have found that a lot of low calorie and low fat meals are loaded with sodium. Sodium causes water retention and therefore defeats the purpose of having low cal and low fat meals.
Weight gain is still prevelant

Those of you that have decided it's not what you eat, it's how much have never had to lose wieght. If I don't eat double what a 'prescribed' portion is I feel like I'm being deprived. If I eat no fat and no sugar and excersize I can maintain a normal BMI. Until you've had to lose 50-100 pounds and know how to do it, don't make recomendations on losing wieght, you don't have a clue.
