Um, I gained 20lbs, not 15. I did eat pretty healthy; however, I DRANK A LOT OF BEER AND LIQUOR! You'd be amazed at how many calories you pack away when you go out drinking....and then times that amount by 4 or 5 nights a week. Yeah, the calories add up, fast. BEWARE!!!! Advice from a college graduate: get a personal trainer right after graduation as a present to yourself. My personal trainer was a nutrition doctor and somehow his rules about little portions stuck with me. It does wonders, trust me.

I have lost 40 pounds in the last 3 years, and thinking about going to university for the first time made me anxious about gaining back the weight. I now consider myself at a healthy weight, and I want to stay this way! Thank you for the article. Very useful.

well in my school it is more expensive to eat healthy so it was hard trying to eat salads and veggie stuff without being broke.

One other thing to keep in mind...eating late at night can contribute to added weight gain. I know it's difficult not to (especially at 3 AM when you have the "drunk munchies" and all you want is Taco Bell!) but it does make a difference. I think the reason alcohol was left out of this article is that most freshmen are under 21 so technically alcohol is unavailable to them. But in my experience it was easy enough to get a hold of.

I dont know what college they are talkin about, i go to NC State and every student walks at least 1-2 miles total for class each day, same goes for most real colleges, if you get fat here, you deserve it and a free huge gym for students with so many resources and very big intramural sports program

Well I know that I gained the freshman 15 and every other year and the one thing that she didnt mention was eating late at night while cramming or studying. Just say no to late night food runs they will kill your social life and your waist line.... TRUST ME!!!!

FYI, most colleges nowadays offer state-of-the-art fully equipped gyms on campus for all students for free (as part of the overall tuition bill). No excuse not to go.

These are all great tips but who is she kidding.....we all know the freshman 15 comes from alcohol!!!! Tip 16 - Go Light! Instead of drinking low-quality, high-calorie keg beer plan ahead and pack some light beer in your purse. If beer is not your thing but you still want to imbibe, try light rum mixed with diet coke...only about 150 calories but you will still have as much fun as everyone else - and you won't look like a square!

Well, all of the stuff they said in this article is pretty obvious. I mean, just don't eat lots of junk food and exercise. But its easier said than done.

Put the weight on before you go... it's almost guaranteed to happen anyways. It's a new way of life for many. Hot, fast, now will pack on the pounds. Steer clear of alcohol and eating late meals! It will save your trim figure!

Usually college freshmen are coming out of adolescence and will put on weight that makes them look like an adult. I put on weight when I went to college and it was healthy. As for joining a gym, most schools make you pay a recreation fee so a gym membership is included. Another thing that would sabotage weight is eating late at night, that's a killer
