Last week at davidburke & donatella was busy, to say the least.
On Wednesday night, football great Tiki Barber's wife threw him a retirement party. The couple, and about 20 of their closest friends and family - including Giants owner Steve Tisch, Tiki's twin brother Ronde and their mother - took over the back part of the dining room to celebrate Tiki's retirement from the NFL. Tiki, who was a running back for the New York Giants, is a davidburke & donatella regular, so when his wife approached me about having an intimate retirement party there, I was more than happy to oblige. The crowd filled up on t-bone steaks and halibut and partied all night.
Earlier in the week, my favorite actor Hugh Grant came in for dinner with a group of eight friends. I got over being star struck long ago - we get plenty of celebrities at davidburke & donatella - but I really love Hugh and felt a little like a high school girl when he arrived. He's so adorable and sweet and looks exactly like he does in the movies. To add to my adoration, he ordered my favorite Italian wine, Sassicaia. So when it came time for dessert, and they decided not to order, I knew they wouldn't be able to resist David Burke's Cheesecake Lollipop Tree with raspberries and bubble gum - flavored whipped cream. I sent a few over and they, of course, ate them up.
Hugh was good to me, so to return the favor I went to see his new movie Music & Lyrics. On the other hand, though Tiki was -and is always - good to me, I still can't bring myself to watch football.
