For the Classic Look
The Weber Kettle is one of the most recognized charcoal grills on the market.  So, what's new here?  If you want something other than black, blue, or green colors that are widely available at big-box retailers, then look for the exclusive designer gray finish at Crate & Barrel, $299.

For the Master of His Domain
For the barbecue purist, nothing says you're the master of your domain more than when you're manning the grill behind a barrel grill.  Go all the way with a side-by-side barrel grill from Chaney's, $575.  And don't forget your chef's hat.

Challenger of the Status Quo
If you like challenging conventional wisdom, then kamado-style cookers just might be for you.  It's not stainless, it's not shaped like a traditional backyard grill, and doesn't use briquettes or gas but lump charcoal.  Based on centuries of ceramic oven cooking traditions, Kamado owners are especially passionate about their grilling results.  Custom-made kamados with tile finishes ($399 - $1799) are available online at kamado.com (pictured above), or get the Big Green Egg versions (starting at $499 at Amazon.)

Must Have the Latest Technology
One of the growing trends in gas grilling is infrared heating elements that reach temperatures of up to 1000 degrees to help sear your meats.  These are usually found in higher end grills and one of the more reasonably priced grills with an infrared element are made by Napolean Appliances.  Take a look at their Prestige 1 RB Series Gas Grill with Cart for under $1,000 at Barbecues.com.

For the designer show-off
Blending stainless steel with Corian surfaces, the Jeppe Utzon is part sculpture and part barbeque.  Currently only available through Electrolux in Australia where it was designed, so, you’ve just saved about $7800.

Happy grilling.

I have an old style, cheap gas grill that my brother gave me. I replaced the burners ($26), heaing plate ($8) top grill ($6) and lava rocks ($8) and it works as good as a brand new one! All for only $48 and I can pocket the rest of that $7,800 for my kid's education. Good grilling does NOT have to be expensive.

The barrel type grill is the ultimate! Ive had one for years and never fail to please my friends and family with the flavors it produces. I've smoked whole turkeys and roasts for Thanksgiving on them and been well pleased. That is the master tool for the master griller.

You can have a $7,800 grill or the $2.50 disposable, "one time use" grill. THE most important element is taking the time to skillfully prepare your food for grilling and attending to it until it's done. I was recently at a beach BBQ here in Japan where the meat was smoked in a cardboard box! It was delicious!!!

The absolute best wood grill? In a word, Treager! Without an exception an exceptional grill, "taste the difference!" We'll never go back to charcoal now.

Personally I like the infa red burner. The temp gets to about 1500 degrees, and thats what seals in the flavor. It's the same type of grill Ruth's Chris Steak House uses. Dean

Wow! I just have the old azz one that you put charcoal in, you know, the round one that has three legs and two wheels. So you see, now need for "State of the Art" grills. It's how the grill that gives the meat falvor, its who's cooking it!

As it has been stated at various times and the best grillers now. It is the seasoning that counts. In Puerto Rico. We use Abodo and Sazon also Sofrito. These are all a combination of different spices mixed into one. But you can add a small can of beer and What my son calls Worchestershire Sauce to almost any meat and the flavor intensifies greatly. Good Grilling to you to all. And if you are in Dallas Texas an invitacion would be great!!!! brenajean2002@yahoo Sabrina

We are on our second Traeger and will never buy anything else. If you haven't used a pellet grill before, you are in for a treat. Cooking with wood - there's nothing better.

living in south carolina, there is one thing we know how to cook and that bar-b -que and trust me the barrel type grill works the best. i have made a barrel grill out of an old 100 gallon lp gas tank and its big enough to grill a whole hog and five turkeys. charcoal and gas are ok to cook with but i rather use oak wood coals

Grilling is done with gas. BBQ is created with charcoal. Low and slow are my words of wisdom. "Pork fat cannot be removed, it must be melted"- Confucius

I have the best BBQ ever. My brother made it from 2 bricks and a long wire mesh. Has been cooking our BBQ for about 10 years. Sure it only cooks 6 snags at once and burns most things but what else does an Aussie guy need?
