Our Favorite Salt Cellars

To season our cooking, I love just being able to grab some coarse kosher salt from our salt cellar just next to the stove.  For me, the method is part tactile - feeling the salt between your fingers, and part process that makes you rely more on your intuition and taste instead of precise measurement.

And while you can store salt in just any container, here's some cool salt cellars I've seen recently.

From Crate and Barrel, choose from a classic style glass salt cellar ($7.95) or a bamboo one ($14.95).

I've seen round wooden salt cellars, but this one made of Southeast Asian Neem wood has two compartments ($25) so you can store another favorite spice you use often.

Michael Chiarello of NapaStyle offers a classic Italian ceramic salt box ($39) that is handmade in Florence.

If you a minimalist, then you might like Scanwood's Scandinavian Salt Dish from A+R ($5).  I only wish it had a lid.

Finally, from Nigella, she offers a dual Salt Pig ($19 at ChefTools.com) to hold your salt and pepper at tableside.
