Wiseman House Chocolates: A Hidden Chocolate Treasure

For ten years Kevin Wenzel, owner of Wiseman House Chocolates, has been handcrafting fine chocolates in the small town of Hico, Texas (pop. 1351).  Up until this year, purchasing these delectable treats required a long drive to the country and a bottle of windshield cleaner upon return.  So, how does a gourmet chocolate company survive in such a remote location?  One taste and we found out why.  Each Wiseman House chocolate is rolled and dipped by hand and simply divine.   Today, this unique chocolate find and the story of how its owner went from studying art all over the world to making chocolate in a small town can all be found at their website: wisemanhousechocolates.com.

Our favorites include Wild Woman, an incredibly creamy smooth dark chocolate truffle; Love Potion, an interesting mix of dark chocolate with soft "heated" aftertaste from its chipotle infusion; and Raspberry, another dark chocolate treasure with the freshest raspberry taste.  Finally, every chocolate box is beautifully wrapped making Wiseman House Chocolates an elegant gift.

Sounds great, but if you're in the SF Bay area, make a pilgrimage to Richard Donnelley's shop in Santa Cruz: http://www.donnellychocolates.com/

I live about 25 miles from Hico, in Dublin, and travel there often! I love the raspberry champagne truffles, and the irish cream. they also have wonderful toffee, and bridge mix. A chocoholics dream come true. When you walk through the front doors, the smell of chocolate over comes you. You must visit if you are within a 100 mile radius!!!

These are the best chocolates (fresh!!!) like none you have had. Their different box sizes make it easy to send a special thanks and not break the bank. I am set for the holidays!!!

I am a chocoholic and any chocolate that melts in my mouth like butter is the only one for me. My mouth waters everytime I think about the luxurious Wiseman House Chocolates. These chocolates are the best and do not compare to any other. If you ever need a fast, great gift, they have a variety of boxes for that special person.

I have never confessed to being a chocoholic until now. We stopped at Wiseman House on a fluke on a girls weekend. I don't think I have ever enjoyed chocolate this much. It tastes like I thought the chocolate in the movie Chocolat would taste. Like Magic. I bought a few pieces to take home to my until then, forgotten husband. What a find. I took him back with me to Hico two weeks later. We are now both addicted. I try to keep myself to no more that a truffle a day, more often I have two. Discipline has never been one of my strong points. It's a good thing they ship.
