Jack o' Lanterns Made Easy: Five Essential Tools for Carving

POST A COMMENT »

It's that time of year again: time to get out the pumpkin carving tools and create your very own jack o' lantern for neighborhood trick-or-treaters. We found a few tools that'll make your carving easier this year.

Pumpkin Carving Knife

This pumpkin carving knife from Sur La Table is ideal for someone who wants a tool used more than just once a year; it is designed to cut pumpkins and melons.

Pumpkin Scoop

Another tool that can be used for both pumpkins and melons, this scoop is specifically designed to scrape out seeds and pulp. I'm sure it's much more efficient than the plastic serving spoon I've been using for too long.

Pumpkin Carving Kit

This kit comes with three very useful components: two knives -- one that is angled to cut lids and shapes and another for more detailed designs -- and a scoop. It is also includes templates to help the amateur create a unique jack o' lantern.

Pumpkin Carving Drill

Can you believe they make a drill for pumpkin carving? My dad would have loved this. The drill also comes with a carving kit.

Finally, after you've scooped out all those seeds, visit Daily Olive for a fun caramelized pumpkin seed recipe.

Okay, no doubt Halloween pumpkin carving tools have come a long way, but at the YAHOO! home page they show pictures of carved pumpkins, and that's what I thought I would see by reading the article. Thanks for the tool tips, but the article would have had a little bit more pizzaz had it had carving examples.

what ever happened to good old fashioned pumpkin carving using a steak knife and scooping out the guts with a big ol spoon. Only lazy people need to use a dang drill for scooping!
