In 1938 Earl Tupper founded the Tupper Plastics Company, in 1945 the "burping seal" bowl was born, and in 1948 the first Tupperware party was held. Today, other companies have joined the "party," creating different and modern ways to store food in plastic containers. Here's a look at what's available now:
The Classic
This modern take on a classic design, the Thatsa Bowl ($19 & $24 at Tupperware) looks similar to the original Tupperware bowls and has a unique thumb built-in feature, making mixing easier. This is just one of the Classic models available at the Tupperware website.
Easy Storage
For those with little to no kitchen storage, like myself, Rubbermaid's collapsible storage sets ($13.99, set of 3) are a great solution. They are quick to pop up and down (you can adjust how much you want them to hold), don't take up an entire drawer, and are easy to stack.
On the Go
Avon offers a unique salad storage system for lunch on the go. The Salad Chiller ($12.99 at Avon) holds up to four cups of greens, has a detachable chill pack, and even has a dressing dispenser built right in. A bit more sophisticated than the old Tupperware lunchbox (below). Remember those?
Shapely
These plastic containers from DesiDry add a modern -- and shapely -- twist to storing food. Rather than square or circular, these containers are domed: so smart and simple. Check out all of DesiDry's uniquely shaped products at the Container Store (starting at $4.99).
Inexpensive
Gladware is an inexpensive way to store food. They are also perfect for dinner party leftovers: You don't mind letting dinner guests leave with a Gladware full of food, and they are conveniently available at most supermarkets ($3.49 for package of 5; 24 oz. package).
