My fave salad is actually from a local restaurant: Sring Mix- type greens, grapes, sliced strawberries, chunks of fresh pineapple, a few wedges of tomato, and grilled chicken breast. They use a nice oniony poppy-seed dressing that is to die for, but i get it on the side so i only use half as much. they serve you a full plate, so that's 2 meals for me. The fresh cold fruit contrast so well with the grilled chicken breast. Its very tasty!

Mark W...so, salt's bad for you, but bologna and weiners aren't? Not only do they have a high salt content, but they also contain tons of preservatives, not to mention the fat content. Also, to all the salt haters, sodium is in fact a mineral that is essential to animal life (which includes humans). Anybody who has seen a horse/livestock farm knows farmers provide salt blocks to their animals. It also brings out flavor in both savory and sweet foods. As with all things, moderation is key.

I love garbanzo beans on my salad.. drained and rinsed canned ones are fine just the way they are but for a real treat place the drained and rinsed chick peas on a baking sheet with sides (in case the roll) and sprinkle with whatever kind of seasoning you like (salt and pepper, Italian seasoning, cajun seasoning, whatever) and bake at 400 degress until they get browned and kinda crunchy. Mmm.. they are yummy to snack on and rock in a salad!!!

I always use a variety of greens and of course colored veggies, it makes the salad pretty. When I want creamy dressing, I use a couple of tablespoon of low fat sour cream, fresh chopped chives, black pepper and a drizzle of olive oil. whisk and enjoy. for non creamy, olive oil, raspberry vinegar, a half a packet of splenda or equal, a squeeze of fresh lime whisk and enjoy. I also love walnuts, almonds and pecans in my salads.

None of these sound appetizing. If you really want to spice up your salad, add french fries. Yes, I am from Pittsburgh and we put fries on everything, but seriously fries make a salad, especially when there is chicken, cheese, and ranch dressing involved. Try one.

This is why one orders dressing on the side. Pour as generous or meager as you want. All posting's on here have great ideas, just don't see the point of the featured article.

My favorite salad is greens with avacadoes, red or vidallia onions, olives and cucumbers ( with chicken is great, too). I love to dress it with mustard and a splash of lime juice whisked with extra virgin olive oil. Sometimes I use just citrus juice, salt and pepper. No oil, so it's low-fat!

olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh minced garlic , sea salt and cracked black pepper. My nephews ask if I can make them their own bottle to take home! :-D It's great on any salad but is perfect for a nice spinach salad w/ boiled eggs, sunflower seeds, purple onion, tomatoes & crumbled bleu cheese. The best!

Wow, suprised no one's mentioned this yet.
Fresh herbs chopped up, or thrown in along side the lettuce/spinach or whatever mix you throw together. MUST be fresh...adds such great flavors.

I love to mix lemon juice, olive oil, and honey together for a sweeter tasting, light dressing. Add salt and pepper to taste. Its great over lettuce as well as fruit!

To spring salad mix I add drained mandarin orange slices, walnuts, and feta cheese. I top it all off with Raspberry Vinegarette (Lite). Mmmm Mmmm. I'm eating this almost every day.

I love marinated artichoke hearts and pine nuts in almost all of my green salads. I have a new favorite too, cubed tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, fresh chopped basil, shaved parmesan cheese (no lettuce). I make the dressing of olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar. It is great!

i love salad as well especially greek salad. but i never have time to run out and buy it so i made my own little version instead of iceberg lettuce i used a spring mix which ,cooked some steak sliced really kind of medium thin not to thin to where u cant taste it, added some feta cheese and used a little bit of balsalmic vingerette dressing. of course u can make ur own dressing and it's alot cheaper which u prefer.

I LOVE salad! I make a great salad with chicken. I bake chicken breasts in the oven w/salt and pepper, paprika and rosemary. I use about a 1/4-1/3 cup of olive oil too. As the chicken bakes, it marinates the oil. I add some mixed greens to a bowl with cucumber, onion, blue cheese, toss with salt/pepper, a pinch of sugar or spenda, red wine vinegar and use the olive oil baked with the chicken. The salad is a bit warm and the flavors just melt together. Yummy!

The only time I use a bottled dressing for a salad is when I make my specialty spinach salad. Other than that - this is what I do - I wash my lettuce well and then pat it dry with paper towels but still leaving a little dampness on the leafs. I add my cucumbers, tomatoes, chopped onion and whatever else I feel like adding plus some Mrs. Dash, a little garlic powder, salt & pepper, paparika, sweet basil & oregano and then I hand toss to get all the spices mixed into the veggies. My family and friends put no dressing on my green salad because there is no need to. The moisture from the veggies in the salad help me out and give the salad a nice flavor

Am I the only one who likes either red bell peppers or beets in my salads? To my mind the peppers are the single most perfect vegetable there is and they are so sweet and crunchy in any salad. My favorite dressing is a French (not that nasty pink stuff) with olive oil, wine vinegar, garlic, Dijon mustard, lots of pepper and a touch of sugar. Shake well and drizzle.
