Although I go out very rarely, it's to indulge myself...I count calories every meal, it won't ruin my diet or kill me to have one meal on occasion where I can have whatever I want at one of these places... It keeps me sane, and on good food behavior the rest of the time. A little indulgence goes a long way.

For those wondering about other restaurants, I carry a copy of the 2007 edition of "The Calorie King" Calorie Fat & Carbohydrate Counter book. It fits in my purse and has EVERYTHING you could possibly put in your mouth listed w/ Cal., Fat, and Carbs. I lost 50# just thumbing through this book!

I believe this is helpful because many menu items do not seem as though they would be that unhealthy for you (onion blossom, particularly) and its always good to have the facts. Personally, I'd like to see more interesting vegetarian choices. America is one of the only countries who act as though meat should be the biggest part of the meal.

Well duh! you expect the burgers to be hugely fat laden butwhat about those dishes that "appear" to be healthy like the Applebee's Oriental Chicken Salad - keep that Oriental dressing on your salad and you may as well have that burger.

WOW 2710 Calories and 210 grams of fat, that is insane. Thank god i only eat home made food cooked to the exact specifications of a healthy and low calorie/low fat diet.

All of these choices and restaurants are not healthy in anyway. Before chains like this came along families rarely dined out and when couples went on dates they went to smaller family owned restaurants with fresh ingredients. All of these restaurants contribute to US obesity statistics; cooking at home or splurging somewhere REALLY good once and awhile is the way to.

Be careful of some of the "healthy" desserts at Applebee's. They contain Olestra and can do a number on you for a couple of hours after. After eating there several times and having the same intestinal problems afterwards, I finally realized what the problem was. I haven't eaten there since.

I am on a diet plan and I use Calorie King software to track everything I eat and they have the nutritional content for almost every chain restaurant out there. I love it.

This article had good intentions but it doesn't really help if your looking for dieting tips. First of all the actual fat contents of a meal have very little to do with actually making you fat. And that statement includes sat. fat. If you want to find out more about this do some research on Men's Health and see what their nutritionist experts have to say. Carbs have much more to do with you making you gain weight. Especially High Glycemic Carbohydrates. You should always choose low GI carbs when you do choose to eat carbs... excercise and stay healthy

Ouch! you are what you eat. One time, I asked my doctor about the best dieting plan outhere, she told me: "Eat less!".
Since then, I cut down my portion. Learn to bake and broil at home, join a support group and I am so happy with my eating habit now! Sing praises!

I'm a diabetic. Its darned near imposible to go out to eat and ballance my carbs. Forget about getting the sugar content of things. Some places DO have suger free items, but many dont. When are these places going to make it safe for me to eat out?
