Ten 100-calorie snacks and desserts

Who hasn't spent way too much moolah on a box of those cleverly packaged 100-calorie baglettes of cookies or crackers? Even though you know they cost roughly twice what a regular bag does -- not to mention that all that packaging is a mini-environmental disaster -- still, they limit temptation.

Save your dough and satisfy your snack attacks with one of these treats. Lots are single servings; nearly all the rest can be popped into mini-plastic bags and thrown into a pocket or bag. No will power needed.

  • 5 Hershey's dark chocolate Kisses or, if chocolate's gotta be Dove for you, 2 Dove Promise dark chocolate miniatures
  • 2 fresh figs or 1 juicy pear
  • ½ English muffin toasted with just enough cheddar to meltingly cover the top
  • 1 heaping cup of cherries
  • 12 almonds
  • 12 dried apricot halves
  • 1 Dannon Light & Fit Raspberry Smoothie
  • 1 Klondike Slim-a-Bear fudge bar
  • 48 Rold Gold pretzel sticks
  • 2 Dole frozen fruit juice bars (go wild and have 3 if you like -- at 30 calories a pop, who cares?)
  • 1 Starbucks 8-oz. Caramel Macchiato, made with nonfat milk
  • And if you're pregnant and craving pickles and nothing but, you can happily munch and crunch through 8 medium dills.

Great ideas. Though some of those snacks don't seem very filling. (2 figs???) If I had to choose between eating 100 calories and being hungry in an hour v. 180 calories and being satisfied for 3-4 hours I would go with the latter.

frappuccinos have waaaaaaaay too many calories. they are all sugar and whipped cream. try getting the shaken iced green tea with a little splenda in it. so much better.

Starbucks is great, and it taste good also but the caramel sauce used in the to mark the drink is all corn syrup and color, not sugar that has been carmelized. Try a latte with splenda or with the sugar free hazelnut / vanilla syrup. Have it with 1% or 2% milk it taste great.

Go to http://www.starbucks.com/retail/beverages.asp to get all the caloric data. This way you can decide what to have and how much you can afford. My niece has all her lattes with Breve( half & half) I can only have 1%, so make and informed choice.

for all you folks into starbucks, also good to know that a tall fat free latte (and some others) are only 2 weight watchers points. www.dottisweightlosszone.com is a great source for points on a ton of restaurants, etc.

Why is it you tell us to eat Almonds in this article and not to eat them in the next? Almonds are good for you, but you seem not to be able to make up your mind....

You know how uch sodium 8 dill pickles pack? I don't either, but I'll bet it's A LOT! Talk about compunding ankle edema. Life isn't just about calories, buddy! If you eat everything in moderation, you can have just about anything is my philosophy. Yep, even a slice of bacon...

I'm with you "cgslimrn". I eat and drink just about ANYTHING, work out (nothing rigorous...just walk an hour), and I am 5'1, 113 - 115 lbs. By the way, my honey and I have 4 - 5 different cheeses with bread and salami every single evening before we go to sleep. The point, just walk 3x a week no less than 40 mins., drink lots of water and "enjoy ALL foods".

Right on. Eat what you want, use a little common sense, and drop the spoon after half the ice-cream tub is gone. Don't eat in front of the television. I guarantee you, the whole tub will be vacant and empty before Futurama is over. Side note: All Starbucks' beverages should be consumed with a quadruple shot of espresso. eYoW!

None of this stuff is filling enough. Everything in moderation is the key - and who needs caramel? Drink black coffee! Black coffee with dark chocolate...yummmm

swarna_glittering, calories are the amount of energy your body has to expend in order to work off the food you ate. In itself, calories are not good or bad for your health, but you need a certain amount per day to sustain yourself and the normal activities you do and consuming more than what you need can cause you to gain weight.

the key here is not to feel filled up, but to "take the edge off of hunger", while reducing the calories, fat and carbs.

The 100 Calorie packs of cookies from Nabisco and Keebler are awesome. I found the Grasshopper mint kind! Perfect amount to beat the cravings and far less calories than if I tried to count out how many cookies and only eat those few!!
