What are the benefits to eating honey?

Brendozo : Eating honey can be beneficial for some allergies ( i.e.- seasonal), but check with your doctor first. Bee pollen can also be helpful, but again, clear it with your doctor before taking it. As a sweetener, it beats refined sugar in that it has at least some nutritional, and perhaps therapeutic, value.

Does honey expire? I have an unopened honey in my fridge and I presume it is now a year-old. Is it still fit for consumption? Is honey good for babies, too?

honey has been found in egyptian tombs after thousands of years and was found still good. Honey will crystalize if kept in the frig. It should not be kept in the refrigerator. It does not spoil. If honey crystalizes you just heat it in hot water and it will go back to liquid. also never give a baby honey. I'm a past beekeeper

It is really interesting to know the wonderful effects of Honey. In Ayurvedic treatments Honey is the main ingradient for all medicines. Let us take one spoon of honey diluted with water in empty stomach and watch the difference. S D PARAMESWARAN

Why hasnt anyone mentioned the terrible decimation of honey bees in the last year? Without bees-no honey, no crops! Wake up people! 80 to 90% of hives are vanishing. Einstein said that without honey bees humans wouldnt last more than four years on this planet.

I know pesonally that one benefit of eating honey is is supresses the appetitie immediately. It is a simple carb that allows your body to think that is full sooner, when it is mixed with other products. I made this homemade bread receipe from diet bites, www.dietbites.com/article1095.html It's called Hunza bread, it was used as a staple for the Muyans or Aztecs as a staple. This is a great weight loss bread, and with the added honey, I tripled the amount recommeded, it makes you feel full. If you have lost weight or enjoy the bread or any other comments feel free to comment.

Mirza. All real honeys are very sweet and any ant will be very happy to get its feelers on some. The slightly bitter honey you may be thinking of is honey mixed with royal jelly. Royal Jelly is a compound made by nurse bees specifically to feed the queen. It is not sweet and unlike honey will spoil rather quickly. Suspending it in honey serves to preserve it and make it more palatable. Royal jelly has a long list of beneficial properties and has been hailed as the fountain of youth. It can be taken internally as well as applied topically and has proven its virtues in both applications.

HONEY does NOT expire. When it gets crystals, gently heat it until it is liquid again. When cooking with honey, reduce the called-for liquid by 1/4C. Honey has natural B vitamins. Sterile honey put on a burn (not 2nd. or 3rd. degree) will keep the skin from scaring. Honey made from bees in your area will help with air-borne pollen allergies. Honey is the most natural of all foods and the body utilizes every bit of it. Honey should NOT be given to babies under 2 years of age.

It has been my experience that using honey gathered locally, helps with seasonal allergies. However, now days it is not as easy to find local honey. Good luck!

May I add that honey comb mixed with beeswax, which has been heated until semi liquid, makes a good hand cream and skin softener. And as an added benefit this mixture can be used to treat the bore of a black powder gun to prevent rust during storage.

Hope I have some in the cupboard. Being as vain as I am, I am always looking for something to improve my look and love when I find natural recipes. Another I find is great for softening is oatmeal powdered using a coffee grinder with added powdered milk. Use small amount with water to make a watery paste (or as thick as you like) apply, let dry, moisen with wet cloth then remove.

To Noleigh, NEVER give honey to a baby! Honey can cause infant botulism because honey can be a source of Botulinum spores. Babies dont have strong immune systems so they cant fight off this infection.

Honey does NOT expire and NEVER EVER give honey to a baby under the age of 2, they have not developed the immunity to honey - as harmless as it seems.

Very good article! It may need a few more recipes with honey, but that is fine! The mask showed there is really effective! You can feel your skin revamped just after the first time. But doesen't the milk put too much grase in your face?
