If your thyroid is working properly, you can convert saturated fats into essential omegas, but due to our highly processed diet, most American's thyroid glands aren't fully functional. Cheese, bacon, and meats are great . . . in moderation, and yes, whole wheat bread/toast is just as good as oatmeal, if your body tolerates gluten.
Great info, I just wish more people would listen.
BTW, that snack in second period is a great idea!

I'm a student and I don't eat breakfast. Eating breakfast makes my stomach hurt and just doesn't taste good. I'm not fat and I get good grades. Those statistics seem like they're just there to scare people in to eating breakfast.

When I was a teenager and wouldn't eat breakfast, my mom would make an instant breakfast shake and give it to me a container that I could take with me. I would drink it on my way to the bus stop or on the bus. Having kids with a growling stomach will make them lose their concentration during class.

I am a rushed mother and my older kid refuses to eat breakfast. I sometimes make Soy milk hot chocolate or Soy milk Instant Breakfast. He will drink, if not eat. He says his stomach isn't ready for foods in the morning. A glass of orange juice can be a wonderful full meal in a raw foods diet too. I know for my younger son he really needs a morning meal to stabalise him. he is anxious and distractible in school. One of his teachers would bring him a pear every day and give it to him at snack time. Really sweet of her!

It's obvious that some of the bloggers don't have kids or just don't put their kids first. But, a good breakfast in the morning is the best way to start your day. Getting your kids to bed at a decent hour at night and a good breakfast in the AM can only give you a smart child in the end.

I too didn't eat breakfast because it gave me an upset stomach when I was a kid. Turns out I had acid reflux which was diagnosed my first year out of school. Maybe parents should be talking to the kids pediatrician.

I remember hating to eat breakfast in the morning because teachers would give you such a hard time about going to the washroom when you had to go sometimes, so I would skip breakfast.

The word "breakfast" basically means to "break" the "fasting." I teach school and I am constantly amazed at how many students come to school having nothing to eat since dinner the night before. I myself am not a early morning breakfast eater but know better. When I explain to the students they basically have not eaten for half of a day......many seem to see it in a differerent light. Does it make a difference? Well, I still keep peanut butter, jelly and wheat bread in class for those who need it.

from mama rema,
I have three schoolchildren aged 14 12 @10. i used to get up at 530 am to prepare them for school.Breakfast is very important to the schoolchildren . Everyday is different menus made by myself .I used to present different presentation so that they will have the appetitie to eat you know . fresh milk and kellogs, then fried egg and fried rice with ovaltine. rice and hotdogs, then porrigdeand nido milk, fruits will be during snack time or some raisins juice ,water, this much simple preparation helps a lot to them. They should be alert in the school, otherwise if the stomach is empty they will end up sleepy and cannot participate in the class and will end up to low grades .

THIS IS BULL... people, yeah yeah you MUST eat three square meals a day, you must, you must, you must anyone want to take a good guess as to why there are so many lard butts out there anymore? most of this stuff was put together when life was easier and with fewer head aches, and people worked fat off not going to a jym 3-4 times a week which doesn`t do the body as much good as actual work.

My kids eat breakfast every morning at home and then go to school and eat another breakfast. They won't eat oatmeal, but, they do eat bagels, fruit, biscuits with jelly, cheesy scalloped potatoes(their favorite), or english muffins with jelly. They can have juice or milk with breakfast.

Being a teacher, I see kids come to school every day with nothing to eat for lunch. If you ask them, they are frequently the children who have eaten nothing for breakfast, as well. These are the lethargic kids who have a hard time paying attention, who do poorly on tests later on because they have a hard time listening to you when their stomachs are growling, and their brains are screaming for food.

Well, My kids age 6& 4.. my son age 6 eat breakfast but my 4 year old daughter only drink milk. I find it really so hard.. i don't want her to feel bad too in the morning if i insist. But, i make it a point i put healthy snack in her lunch box.
I believe that breakfast is the foundation of the day, the most important meal of the day for young and old.

For everyone who can't stand oatmeal: Use warmed juices for the liquid. I put in strawberries, bananas, apples, pineapple, blueberries and even a container of my favorite yogurt, warmed. Remember you only need to eat about 3/4 cup.
My 3 boys, after about the 6th grade (when school was really early) stopped eating breakfast. They are 27, 20 and 17. They never eat breakfast still until at least 11:00 in the am.
