Jason- We are IN a recession....NOT leading into one. Try another news source for an educated conclusion. As far as why we are in a recession? Look to our unjust war for that one and not because people are not eating junk food. Geeze.

If you really want a fast healthy breakfast solution, take 30 seconds and stir up a packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added). Mixed in 8 oz. of non-fat milk, you'll get a whopping 14g protein, 4g fiber, only 150 calories and 0.5g fat (0 sat. and trans fats). Plus you'll save time, money and gas avoiding the drive through.

It would be interesting if the author ( all though the intent was to persue the fast food goer to healthier choices ) of this article would write about Fast Food Chains as a place to visit and include in ones diet if they had seen the movie Fast Food Nation. Personally, juicing with fresh vegi's and fruit's w/ whey protein, LIfes Greens added....a healthy boost for your body in the morning. Stay healthy....stay happy everyone.

This is the same recommendations of the 70's. Low fat. low fat with no mention of carbohydrates and sugar. I believe these misguided and erroneous recommendations have been a significant factor in the escalating epedemic of Type II Diabetes.

How can this author say the egg mcmuffin is a "diet disaster" with 300 calories and 12 g fat, and then suggest the starbuck's latte with a bag of dried fruit and nuts is a "good choice" when it has a total of 275 calories and 9 g fat. Give me a break!

These are good tips, but there is no mention of SUGAR in any of the nutrition listings for each item. Still best to eat your own whole grain toast or cereal (esp. Irish style oats). Then you can regular the salt, fat and sugar added.

Eggs and Cheese or Dairy are not ways to start your day. Fruit, Granola, Oatmeal, and fresh juices are more ideal. How can they say anything from McDonalds is healthy and then slam BK? Oh I know. They probably lined a few pockets... But they both suck!

Bacon & Eggs, Hash Browns, Toast and a short stack of Buttermilk pancakes. Wash that back with a cup of coffee and you got a real mans breakfast! Keep you skinny lattes and your walnut parfaits (whatever the hell those are)

What a bunch of nice people to give such nice positive answers to help others. The list of fat free meals is a long one. I think the people are smart enough for that.I dont think calling people ignorant is where its at.( Think Positive ) Not Negative

A 300 calorie Egg McMuffin may be a "freeway to diet disaster", but a 280 calorie Egg and Cheese English Muffin Sandwich at Dunkin Donuts is OK because Dunkin Donuts is a Yahoo! Food co-sponsor (ad appeared to right of the article when I read it).
As for all the low-carbers here -- you should already know how many carbs are in a piece of bread, English muffin, tortilla (wrap), etc.
Bottom line -- if you're lining up for fast food breakfast, you're off your diet, no matter which diet you're on.

I like articles like this. They are not saying don't eat healthy food at home. They just understand that sometimes that might not be an option. Like me, if I am running late for my train, I have to pick up breakfast downtown if at all. I need to know which options are the best alternatives to home rather than just avoiding eating breakfast all together.

Im sorry, 300 calories is NOT a large breakfast! Now, an Egg McMuffin is not healthy, no, but saying 300 calories and 12 grams of fat is a lot?!?! If I dont have 300-400 calories for breakfast by lunch Im freaking starving! And, you got to have protien! Fat is not bad people, animal derived fat is bad, but, eat all the peanuts you want and youll probably be healthier for it.

Paid propaganda to get people to buy those products with illusion of providing some health benefits. People want to be healthy so those who buy it will believe they are eating healthier. They do the same thing on the nightly news when they tell you cherries help prostate cancer.
Its crap people, dont eat crap.

McDonalds and Starbucks are not my favoite places to go for one they are too expensive for the quanity you recieve.
It is alright to take your children there once a month. Exercise is more important than food I think.
Then you can eat all you want:)
you know why not just grab an apple or a banana...its just as easy and you can eat that in the car too...its like you are telling us to go to these places just to spend our hard earned money faster than we already have to. Also if you want to eat healthy get up earlier so you have time to cook yourself some eggs and toast or something it doesnt take that long to cook yourself some breakfast or even sit down and eat an apple and some cereal. COME ON PEOPLE no wonder we are the most obese country in the world.

That's funny! Did McDonald's and Starbucks joined forces? This article sounds more like a advertisement for their food rather than eating healthy. The only thing that even sounds healthy on that list is from McDonald's! Better luck on your next article.

No wonder we have an obesity problem in america! The only thing that most of you can do is take the information and spit on it. Let's get real and understand that not everyone is cloned and that there needs to be different choices for diffirent lifestyles. Articles like this enable people to gain some kind of information in order to make an "informed" choice. One more thing, fruit and granola may make a good snack but it is far from being an alternative to a breakfast "meal". I will guarantee that those of you that eat that measly of a breakfast are hungry within two hours afterwards.
Balance, moderation and exercise are the keys to healthy living.
