I've been thirty pounds over weight, does that count? It's not easy no matter how much you're over, you just have to have determination and will power.

This article is full of very cliche ideas. As a controlled diabetic, I will say that breads and starches such as potatoes are the very reason why our nation is obese. As a practicing physician I teach my patients the very things that this article tries to "debunk". I am responding because I want to debunk this article. Don't listen to it. It will take you down the wrong path.

Eating products made from grasses like wheat is about the most unnatural food stuff for human consumption. People are supposed to eat meat, fat, lots of vegetables, and whole fruit. Oh yeah, they are not supposed to be sedentary. Reports like this are why Americans are so overweight. Sugar is sugar... there is no good kind unless of course you are going to be a marathon runner.

Bottom line is this fact !
NO DIET WORKS!!! If they did we wouldnt be bouncing from one fad diet to another. Diets are temporary. Changing eating habits are permanent. Dont make a 100% change at one time make microchanges a little at a time until they become your new lifestyle. ANYTHING in excess is bad moderation is key. Eat anything you want just take it easy. And no im not one of those people that never had a weight problem its a struggle day by day.

Stephen is Right On about ASPARTAME!!! It's a crime for FDA to approve such a Poison for food additive. Just Google the word "aspartame" and find out what it can do to harm your body!!!

I'm a little concerned about the tip about eating a burger and walking for 90 minutes (!) afterward. Maybe they should specify: not IMMEDIATELY afterward. Exercising right after a meal is a very bad idea, especially if you're prone to heart trouble or if it is a high-fat/high-calorie meal. That could easily kill somebody.

Some good insight, however exercise daily 30 minutes, a walk, or aerobics, is better for a person than an occasional 90 minute brisk walk. And, being post menopausal, I know for fact the body shape and the way the body uses calories change as you age. Article is not entirely correct and true to facts.

I have to agree with Dobbs. Totally lame. I bet the the author of this article has no weight problems, since there is little room for food when you talk out of both sides of your mouth. However, you might make a good running mate for Obama.

If you assume that the exact same diet is healthy for every person and that the number of calories is the only issue in obesity then this article is great. HOWEVER, if you read the research you'll see that this is not true. While it's obvious that if a person eats bread and potatos smeared with fat they will gain weight because the fat has a lot of calories, it doesn't necessarily follow that plain bread and potatos are just fine. I'll bring in another reader's comment here, amount is a critical factor. For some of us, eating those foods has more impact than others. They can cause changes in the levels of hormones which regulate hunger and fat storage. More hunger = more food intake. More efficient fat storage = higher percentage of calories stored and more weight gained. Yes we need to eat less, yes we need to be smart about fats and yes we need to eat more fruits and vegetables. Please, please please stop telling everyone potatoes and bread are just fine for anyone. It is no more true than saying penicillin is the best antibiotic for everyone who has an infection.

Whatever you eat is always something wrong with it. Too much of anything is bad, that and something else. Don't think about how fat you are, build self esteem. If you think about it YOU are attracting it to YOU. Humans are magnets.

Remember... believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear. Who's the nutritionist who wrote this? The doctor that agrees with it, or a marketing toy to get you to see the commercial ads on the right. I think its the latter.

I've been walking @ 5 days a week @ 90 min a day for over a year now & going to classes at the gym at least 3 x a wk for 9 months & my BMI is still in the 30's which makes me obese. I don't think these diet tips will help me lose the 50 lbs I need to lose to achieve a 22 BMI.
I'm very frustrated!

Diet! the other 4 letter word. Eat well balanced meals, no skipping meals, it just makes you hungrier at you next meal, you tend to over eat. carbs give you energy to burn.

Yes, Anything diet soda contains Aspartame, an artificial sugar known to cause health risks. Same with Sugar-free gum.
You should rather drink a regular soda than a diet soda--besides--who has gotten thinner because of soda?
Google "Aspartame" if you don't believe me (:
