I agree some people might not have known about these things , however just because one person can't eat spicy foods and not get sleep doesnt mean it will be that way for everyone...also, to #6 eatting at night does NOT make you gain weight, that is a complete myth...its it the total amount of calories you consume during the day/evening total to the amount of exercise that will help you gain or lose weight! For chronic back pain I would seriously see your doctor and if they haven't helped get a second opinion, don't mess around with that one but pain meds and muscle relaxers can help. I have to take those thanks to neuropathy and bad sciatica plus sacrum issues and arthritis which all keep me up...now what to do about a very loud snoring partner who won't get his sleep apnea checked?!? and no there is no other room to sleep in! lol

Oh yeah...meditation can do wonders as with deep breathing and clearing your mind! Also herbal tea with valerian root and camomile is good too.

I do all of those. I sleep great. I think it has more to do with regular sleep hours, and the ability to "turn it off" at night. People lay there and worry about things they can't do anything about. Turn it off, start again in the morning.

I believe in being positive Joannd, it's just that articles like these contain information that most of us knew when we were about 15 years old. We all know if you eat too much or drink too much or think too much or work too much or anything else too much---you may have a problem. Here's to baked beans!

No trouble getting to sleep at 10 p.m. Only trouble is deep sleep for 4 hours and then wide awake the rest of the time. Is this enough sleep?

I THINK ALOT OF THIS DEPENDS ON AGE. WHEN YOUR YOUNGER FOODS DO NOT BOTHER YOU AS MUCH. AS FOR CAFFINE IT DEPENDS ON EACH PERSON. I DRINK STARBUCKS AT 11:OO AND SLEEP FINE. SO........I GUESS TO EACH HIS OWN!

This is right out of my moms magic feel good book. The one thing that she did was add sage to it.I would even eat this in the summer just for the memories.

I also had spicy food last night and slept like a log. I always eat spicy food being married to a Latino person. That part is a no. I can also drink a cup of coffee and go right to bed, no problem there either. As for the gaseous food, we've been married for over 10 years so that is no problem either. Got to have the beans. We don't drink alcohol so that is also no problem.

Good Advice. If you already know it consider this a reminder. If you don't know it you've learned something valuable today! Caffiene and heavy or spicy meals near bedtime can cause sleep problems as can a lot of stimulation before bedtime. Try to get quiet inside 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime -- turn off the TV -- read a book -- do an easy crossword. Oh, and the older you get the harder it is to get to sleep as you did when you were younger.

I love to have a heavy meal before bed time. Has it effected my sleep ? Well look at it like this. I weigh 417 lbs. and breath at night through a C-Pap Machine due to Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. You be the Judge.

For women it is definitely hormones and there doesn't seem to be any solution for that one. Basically when it hits I just have to suffer a lousy day after a rough night. It's a drag.
