Top 5 Eats to Stay Happy Through the Holidays

It's that intense time of the year again when the lows are low and the highs are high. Here are our picks of uplifting foods that will banish the blues, keep you focused and maybe even a little sexier. Bon appetit!

1. Peppermint It's nature's drill sergant, telling your brain to "wake up and focus!" Perfect for all thise must-do holiday details. The next time you're dragging, pop a piece of peppermint gum and listen to your brain say, "can do!"

2.      Dark chocolate An ounce or two may be just enough to release the feel-good brain chemical serotonin, plus you'll get a three-way energy kick from chocolate's caffeine, theobromine, and phenylethylamine (a cousin of amphetamine). And the antioxidants in 70% dark chocolate do your arteries good too. No wonder we crave the irresistible stuff.

3.      Wild salmon (mackerel and herring, too)
Logged more miles in a day at the mall than you usually do in a week on the treadmill? The accumulated anti-inflammatory action of omega-3s in a fish platter or a grilled salmon steak can help ease the wear-and-tear on your tired body.

4.      Half a dozen Blue Points  You get more zinc from six oysters than you need in a day to fuel your production of testosterone-the hormone that keeps both men and women in the mood for love. Oysters are also a storehouse of dopamine, the brain's pleasure chemical.

5. An Omelet Just two eggs give you an entire daily quota of vitamin B12, a nutrient that's crucial to your brain's supply of good-mood chemicals. Make it a veggie omelet, add a whole-wheat bagel and you'll be good to go for hours...and for few calories!

Sounds like reasonable advice, since I know a little (??) bit about food. I will definately try the chocolate idea (think chocolate covered cherries & creativity) and probably the omelet for a dinner idea. What is there to lose? Good dinner & delicious dessert for both of us!

Reasonable advice but no telling recipes to make with it. Only says what it is and how it is healthy. Again , reasonalbe advice though. Actuallt, very good advice for me, because I have little knowledge on cooking. When I'm feeling down, I'll do the dark chocolate because I LOVE dark chocolate (also peppermint).

Veggie omelot is excellent for bicyclists! Protein and power too. Plus, you'll lose any excess weight.

Just make sure the salmon is Alaskan, not Atlantic. All Atlantic fish is highly contaminated. I didn't know salmon had anti-inflammatory properties. That is good to know since I have autoimmune diseases that cause tremendous inflammation. So I can have my candy canes for Christmas? Good to know. (In moderation of course.)

Now does it matter if the eggs are boiled rather than scrambled or in omelet form?

Boy Delamente, try NIOXIN shampoo & scalp therapy for thinning hair. You can buy this online or at Walmart styling salon. It's reasonable & it works. It took me approx 2-3 bottles before I started noticing new hair growth. Good luck

Those suggestions sound so good. Do you think there is much more peppermint in a peppermint patty the a stick of gum? My favorite food fetishes are peppermint patties and dark chocolate. I will have to try the Oysters. Salmon is so good for you and good for reducing cholesterol. I never realized eggs contained that much B-12. I reduced my intake of eggs from two to one every couple of days instead of two a day because of my high cholesterol.

My wife eats only the egg whites. Does that take away some of the B12 value?

Don't be so trenchant to such an offerer of advice. It would be of much inconvinence if this imperious offerer should stop offering to such disrespecting imbeciles. You shall contumaciously thank him or her and move on with your lives.

I'm concerned that your disrespecting imbeciles will have no comprehension of your $5 words ... trenchant, imperious, contumaciously? Come now, keep your esoteric speech where it can be understood. Otherwise you look like a pompous jerk.
