3 Cool Ways to Revive Tired, Puffy Eyes

Eyes look swollen from too much partying, too much computer time, too much sleep - or too little - a bad cold, or simply loose under - eye skin caused by heredity, aging, or both. Whatever the cause of puffed-up peepers, here's how to deflate them fast. Just head for the kitchen and...

Slice a cucumber  Dermatologists aren't sure what's behind the anti-inflammatory effects of cucumbers but here's a possible explanation: The veggies contain a combo of mild natural acids that reduce water retention. Some beauty pros say cucumbers work best when they're cold, which makes sense: Since cukes are 90 percent water, chilled slices are like delicate mini-ice packs.

Reach for the peas. Any bag of frozen food will do, but frozen baby peas have a way of fitting into the nooks and crannies around your eyes. Put a soft cloth around the plastic package to protect your skin from the friged surface, then chill out for 5 to 15 minutes while the cold shrinks the swelling.

Make a milk bath  Milk is a natural soother if eyes are irritated as well as puffy. "Just don’t use skim milk, since it doesn’t contain fat, one of milk’s most soothing components," says New York dermatologist Amy Wechsler, MD. Other ingredients in milk that calm swollen skin: protein, amino acids, lactic acid, and vitamins A and D. Pour milk into a bowl of ice, so it gets really cold, saturate a clean washcloth and apply to eyes for up to 15 minutes. Soak and reapply when the cloth loses its cool.

P.S. if puffy eyes are a chronic problem, eye-shapped packs filled with gel that freezes are a worthwile investment...and they don't drip.

I don't know if this is an 'ol wise tale, but putting a teaspoon in the freezer helps me. I have heard that idea a long time ago. Works for me.

I do know that the lemons work, When I had toxemia, I drank lemon juice water all day and night and it helped with the swelling.

Also using tea bags of chamomile tea. Just make sure they aren't too hot, you don't want to burn your eyes.

Not too sure about chamomile tea... chamomile tea is brilliant for shining blonde hair... green tea is good for soothing irritated skin... however, plain old tea bags (chilled) are GREAT for puffy eyes. The caffeine reduces the swelling! (Coffee grounds wrapped in paper towels works too, it's just messier!)

Hello, I am 42 yrs old and have tried everything under the sun for perfect skin remedies. I will highly suggest reading Dr Perricone's books. I learned that what you eat will clear up your skin and using DMAE cream will lessen dark circles. It's helped me so much - had to share! Hope this helps you all! You can email me at stelaine_99@yahoo.com.

I don't get how a milk bath will help your eyes, I think they should have been a little more thorough with their suggestions because you can't title the page "3 Cool Ways to Revive Tired, Puffy Eyes" when a milk bath won't it should have been "3 Cool Ways to Revive Tired, Skin"

I have dry eyes due to Graves/thyroid disease, depending on what I eat, I sometimes end up with swollen painful eyes. I frequently just soak a wash cloth in really cold water and lay it over my eyes. The wetness rehydrates my eyes, and cools and reduces the swelling. Also helps if you have a minor headache. Fall asleep for a while and you wake up with less puffy eyes...but don't forget the moisturizer around your lids afterwords. Anti-puffy products do work. Try what works for you. Usually the more expensive ones do a better job. I use a product I sell and have good results with it.

I've never tried any of these methods but I can tell you that Preparation H (cream) works great too for swollen eyes. Rub it under your eyes and you will see the swelling go down quickly.

I don't know about puffy eyes, but I love to decoct yellow chrystamums (a Chinese herb). I put a towel over my head and soak up some of the steam after they have cooked (ventilating some to keep it the right temp). Then I strain it, drink the tea, and put the warm flowers on my eyes till they cool down. Very wonderful and healthy. Chrysanthemum tea clears and nourishes the eyes. Ask your local acupuncturist to give you some!!
