I think the article oversimplifies things greatly. A lot has to do with your local water and what company your bottled water comes from. Some cities have much better tap water than others, and some bottled water companies take their water straight from the tap, lol. I suppose both need higher testing standards. Buying a filter is probably the best solution for most people, like someone said previously. You can get them pretty cheap from a place like Lowes. The article was pretty lazy and irresponsible. Yes, many bottled water companies are scamming you... but that doesn't mean everyone should automatically start sucking water straight from the tap!

I have a well and I hate city water. I live in the sticks and our water comes from a stream and all we do is filter it once through a house filter and drink up! Hasn't hurt yet and its free for now. Wouldn't surprise me if they tried to charge for it.

I grew up drinking tap water, then when I moved to another city (8 miles from my parents), I drank bottled because there was black stuff floating in the water and it was cloudy when it came out. The only way I drank tap was if it was boiled. Then I invested in a PUR filter to put on my tap and it tastes great. I don't drink unfiltered tap water unless I am at my parents house, their tap water is what I grew up drinking. I even got my sister to buy a PUR filter (she only drank bottled). My cats prefer to drink filtered water also, they won't touch tap water anymore (except when we all stayed at my mom's house).

well I have to say I use my well water for cooking and washing etc, but as far as drinking it, thats a problem for me, becasue of the extremem high levels of iron in the water. If I drink it even a lil bit I become violently ill, so bottled water is all I can drink and we recycle our bottles here in maine so they all go back to be melted down and made into more bottles...if all states recycled maybe they wouldnt have such a problem with bottled water...

Bottled water is alot better than tap. where i live ( in las vegas)
our tap water comes from lake mead, and its discusting because people swim in the water, and we all know that no one really gets out of the pool to go pee.

If you buy plastic bottles, save them and take them to the local recycle center. I'll betcha that there is a refund value for them, that way, you get some cash back. Save the cash you make from the refund and by the end of the year, or 6 months, you can have a nice little chunk of change...We do

Atascadeor , Ca. an ancient volcanic area has a distinct sulfur taste that I personally don't like. It may as you indicate be tested daily for hazzard to humans, but for it's taste, filtered or bottled water is the only way one can go!!!
Our water in a small town on the Central Coast of CA (just south of Big Sur) is horrible! While we get some of it from the CA aquaduct which is OK but lacks good taste...other times, and never noted to the user when, the town switches some users to aquifer water sources. When the nitrate levels get too high - only then do the city officials put out notices not to drink the water before boiling it due to the nitrate levels! I HATE to toss bottles too...and I do refill them as well as use nalgene and other reusable containers - plus a Brita - plus I buy bottled water in large 5 gallon containers. But for sake of hydration on the go, when you are out of water and need it...I still will buy a bottle of water to keep me hydrated if I have not packed enough self set up water to carry with me for the day.

17 million barrels of oil was used last year to make the plastic bottles used for American water consumption producing 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide. 86% become garbage or litter.
There is a better way! If you don't like, or are worried about, tap water, but want to do your part for the environment MAKE YOUR OWN WATER. A Xziex Atmospheric Water Generator can make up to 5 gallons of pure drinking water a day for as little as $.08 a gallon. No oil used to make the plastic bottles or distribute them, no waste in our landfill.
Drink better water, conserve our natural resources, reduce waste and pollution and potentially save money! greenh2o.myxziex.com

In Arkansas there are times that if you drink tap water you can get sick and go to the hospital. Three days of vomiting and still having to search medical attention. Also, fluoride is not good for you or your teeth. Fluoride is a topical cleaner and does you no good when you digest it! Let me just list some of the effects of excess fluoride consumption.
1. Weakening of bones.
2. Possible liver damage
3. Adverse effects on the kidney
4. Chromosomal damage and interference with DNA repair.
5. Effects on the thyroid.
6. Even death. 28mg per kilogram of body mass
FLUORIDE IS NOT YOUR SAVOR!
If you want to talk about the trash issue. Why don't you just talk to the Japanese about their waste plant or shall I so waste power plant? Look for a solution and educate...
