Foods That Fight Wrinkles

POST A COMMENT »

Fighting wrinkles is anything but fighting the inevitable. And at this point, your average five-year-old could probably tell you that step 1 is staying out of the sun. So what else can you do? How about rearranging what's on your plate tonight.

Load up on:                                        Cut down on:

Vegetables                                           Red meat

Beans                                                   Butter

Olive oil                                                Sugary, processed foods

Nuts

Whole-grain bread

Sure, every health expert says you should eat this way, but skin researchers have found that people who actually do have bodies that not only are physically younger, healthier, and slimmer, but they're also less likely to get wrinkles. Cool.

Why? Experts suspect it's because the foods in the "load up" column are crammed with antioxidants, those cellular warriors that fight both aging and disease. Specifically, credit for their wrinkle-fighting success is given to five potent antioxidants -- vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, and selenium -- which excel at reducing the amount of free radicals skin cells produce. Free radicals are what do the aging damage in the first place.

Wondering what to have for dinner tonight? How about a whole-wheat veggie pizza?

I habitually eat beans, olive oil and whole grain bread- but not so much of nuts and vegetables, although I should- I also stay away from red meat and fast food. I use 45 UV protection whenever I go out in the sun and exercise 3 to 4x a week. As a result, no one can guess my age of 35 when they look at me- they think am in my middle 20s- Guess is working!

I love how everyone condemns meat. It's not bad for you if you eat it sensibly or choose low fat or lean meats. Also, if grapes and nuts fight aging, wouldn't that be much the same thing as wrinkles? I'll skip the vegan sissy pizza.

I eat pretty much like your article says to. I always have. I am pushing 66 REAL hard. Will be 66 the last day of August. I don't have wrinkles, yet, but they really don't run in my family. I am white. Irish and Indian. Don't know if that has anything to do with anything, either. I am seldom in the sun, for any length of time, and when I do go out, I use my sunscreen, and have for many years. Any feedback?

If eating red meat were bad you would think that there would be a Biblical mandate prohibiting it. I'm a guy. If I get a wrinkle while eating a "T-bone" from my grill so be it. With guys it's considered distinguishing anyway.

Sorry Alicia M. There is no such thing as low fat meat. It all has cholesterol. If it is animal, it has cholesterol. So you keep eating it, I see an awful lot of healthy people out there that have just had triple/quadruple bypass because of their diet. Thanks, I will stick to the sissy vegan pizza, beans, fruit, whole grains & veggies. Oh, I will skip the olive oil, thank you.

It's amazing how some people delve themselves on not so important things in life such as having wrinkles on their faces. Remember people that its not food that we have to avoid but the amount of it we consume. Also remember that many people are starving around the world so all of us who have plenty of foods in our table should be thankful and contented regardless of its going to avoid wrinkles in our faces or not. Eventually, the force of gravity will pull everything down and the lines on our faces will deepen. We cannot escape the aging process so to those people who are in desperate to look young, puhhleezz, be realistic. Besides, physical beauty is only superficial, aight!

Jesus Wept (and that's the shortest verse in the Bible). I'm 81 going on 48-give or take a few years! I've been eating whatever I want without worrying about what I eat--it's the worrying that causes those deep creases in your face, your arms, your sagging butts! Enjoy life and eat what you want!

I cannot believe how many people are ignorant as to our physiology! Do you realize that from your teeth to your colon, your body is designed to digest more meat than vegetables? Yes we are omnivores, so we need vegetables and fruits as well, but we cannot break down most cellulose from vegetables. Ever wonder why corn comes out the same way it goes in? What is ruining our health when it comes to meat is the way it is raised and fed. Eating right includes healthy meat in our diets. And for those of us who are allergic to many fresh fruits, and don't like eating 5 pounds of them a day anyway to get the nutritional value we need, try a nutritional beverage like Monavie, where you can get all the antioxidants and phytonutrients your body needs daily, instead of just once in a while!

I too am strict about what goes into my body and protecting myself from the sun, yet get enough sun for my vitamin D requirements. I don't know who these folks are that can eat red meat daily and etc. and still look good, and how old they are now. But I love beans, brown rice, vegies and its juice and fruits and am going on 55, yet people can't believe it. I get many comments about my wrinkle free face, though I see that gravity does have an effect. My friends who are even older and eat right most of the time are incredibly younger looking for their ages. I have other friends that are even a bit younger then me though that drink lots of coffee, anything else they want to and are out in the sun alot looking rapidly older. So as they say "Proof is in the pudding"

All food is good for you. But pleeeesssse, it is the quantity. We are a spoiled lot, us Americans, we are out of control with the servings. Let us be thankful we have food in abundance.

I have to agree eat your fruits and veggies and stay out of the sun! Nothing will age you faster than repeated tanning. I'm a natural redhead so I burn easily. I dont do the beach scene and I'm 60 and everyone takes me for mid to late 40's.

I love fat, red meat, and butter, as well as the list on the left. I was carded at 39, and have almost no wrinkles at 65. I do try to avoid the sun, and prefer food to sweets.
