Whoever wrote this does is apparently not a scientist. It is GI TRACT, not track, first of all. Second of all, for weight training, in order to build muscle, you must increase your lean protein intake, both before and after workouts. A good source of protein is whey protein powder, especially after a workout because it is easily and quickly absorbed to allow for muscle recovery. It should be combined with an easily digestible source of carbohydrates such as cream of wheat (not mixed in the same bowl necessarily). This will prevent breakdown of muscle and will stabilize blood sugar as well. I am qualified to give this advice and have the degrees (M.S. and Pharm.D.) and workout experience (20 plus years bodybuilding) to back up what I am saying.

I would like to know exactly what age group, or groups you are trying to reach with this informaton? There is no mention of any vitamins, or healthy supplements to take before a workout! Also, what type of water is being suggested to drink? We need to educate our youth!

These are general guidelines to suggest ideas for each person to use to individualize the recipes to suit their own situation. It's a good article with calorie\energy specifications. If you don't like or tolerate yogurt, substitute juice, milk, soy or rice milk or something else you do like and tolerate. Use things that are easy for you to find, purchase and prepare that are also healthy. Just remember to stay hydrated and not over-do it (except in the case of the MMA Fighter - you have very individual and special requirements - consider a consultation with a registered dietician\R.D. to get a diet specific for your needs) so you don't accidentally injure yourself.

Before my 2 hour workout i like to load up on water, usually a bottle or 2. During i keep on hydrating. After i get home from the gym I usually drink a glass of milk and eat a banana with some peanut butter. Keeps me good until breakfast.

For those of you that have issues (dietary or desire wise) with yogurt, I would suggest probably justa glass of milk, or soymilk, along with a smoothie for hunger pangs. But honestly, I will be the first to admit that I'm not a health expert. I just know that it works for me.
