A vet also recommended a pumpkin 'diet' for my aunts dog who had just lost a limb and was overweight. one can per day mixed with dry dog food. Her dog lost 15lbs the first month...hmmm maybe that would work for people.

I do charity food pickups for clients and there always seems to be spare cans of pumpkin around the holidays. I made my own pumpkin pie using the cans directions only I added more spice. Mine came out better than all the rest !!! Try fresh pumpkin dipped or steamed with brown sugar. Happy Halloween and Happy Holidays!

I love pumpkin anything! I am going to allrecipies.com to see what they have for me! I love to experiment while cooking! I didn't realize that pumpkin was good for all of these things! Also, is the pumpkin for the huskies the only thing they eat or do you mix it in with dog food?

I cook down fresh pumpkin every year after Halloween and use ti when I make pumpkin bread and pies for the holidays. It's wonderful but time consuming. Try it once and see the difference in the tast. It's great.

One of my favorite recipes is pumpkin-cream cheese muffins. When you are filling the muffin trays place a full tablespoon of batter in each one, then add about a teaspoon of cream cheese, and fill the remainder with more pumpkin batter to cover the cream cheese. The muffins hot out of the oven break open with melted cream cheese in the center...yum!

We are wondering how canned could possibly be better for you than fresh? I wish they had said why.

Does anyone sell frozen pumpkin? I hate that canned smell, but fresh ones are a hassle.

For the record, Libby's uses their own Dickinson squash which is Curcurbita moschata, like butternut. Despite the drawing on Libby's label, the Jack o'lantern pumpkins are a different species, Cucurbita pepo, like acorn squash. The difference between pumpkin and squash is colloquial and not botanically significant.

In China pumpkin can be sectioned and sliced to be stir fried with a llittle garlic and salt. Very tasty! Heat oil in wok (two to three T.) almost smoking. Drop in garlic till fragrance is released ( 5 to 10 sec.) then stir fry pumpkin quickly for two or five minutes, according to how soft you want it to be. You may need to add a little water. Add some salt to taste. Serve with other dishes and rice. Another variation is once stir fried for minute or two add some water (more or less 1/4 cup) and little chicken bouillon and cook a minute or two. A sauce will form, slightly thickened. Eat with other dishes and rice. Bouillon will be salty too so watch how much of each you put in the dish.
