I found these tips to be of great use. But, I agree with the writer relative to the water issue. Too much can be detrimental to your health. Thanks for the great tips!

I live in Alaska, and during the winter it is very hard not to pack on the pounds, it's like no matter what you do you still end up with a layer of fat to keep you warm.
I try and stay away from the no-no group of foods, but the long cold dark winters nights are no match for me, you give in because there is nothing else to do.
I now have learned how to keep the weight down, I run a chain saw and swing an 8 pound maul, to split my wood to keep my house and family warm, that keeps me from snacking all day and I sleep better, I don't snack at bedtime.

Great ideas - I found watching my carbs also helps expecially for a quick start on weight loss. However, I am older and have a very slow metobolic rate, even though I excerside 3-4 times a week I can't seem to shed that extra 10 pounds - guess I need a choke treatment for my system. Quick start diet - 1200 calories then work back up. be sure to excersize daily.

Great tips but I need help to lose weight. I do ok except when I'm stressed then its pass the chocolate and soda time. Any tips out there? My metabolism is alot slower these days, too, so that doesn't help. It seems like the weight just hangs on.

Stop counting calories! Eat what you want. Cut down on your portion size and don't eat 3-4 hours before bed time. That's it! You will lose weight with NO excercise. I lost 22 lbs in four weeks. No pills, no excercise.

Use a Kettle for hot water. I like using a coffee thermos and fill it with steaming hot water from the kettle. Then at work can make a bowl of oatmeal and coffee relatively easily...

Not bad in general however leave the non-fat low fat milk out of the cereal and us water, also drop the added sugar! Use whole grain oats and not oatmeal, wheat or rye berries, tritcal or a blend.
Oz and Real Age are not the best experts on this, neither is Bob on Oprah. They go for Splenda which is similar to DDT and commercial foods with lots of additives. At least 8 glasses of water is a minimum in spite of what some studies say, and use only water. Coffee, tea, juice, soda don't count. Drop all the diet foods, cook real food and skip the microwave cooking because it causes nutritional deficieny and raises cholesterol.

These are great suggestions, but I'd have to disagree about adding 1/3 cup of your favorite juice to 2/3 cup sparkling water. WHAT?!? Does the writer not know how high in sodium sparkling water is? High sodium intake can make you totally bloated--not to mention make you crave more sugar! One serving is probably not that bad, but who stops at one serving when trying to re-hydrate? The best thing is to drink 100% natural juice that includes pulp and fiber to buffer the sugar--NOT colored sugar water--that's been flash-pasturized to keep most of the beneficial nutrients.

This is bull! There are times you have a problem because if you take a lot of meds, like I do, then it is twice as hard. I exercise everyday, I walk between 1-4 miles a day. I am very careful in what I eat. I stay on a 1800cal. diet. I see my doctor every three months. So please don't lump us all in one bunch. I get very upset when I read stories like this one. Give Us A Break!!

My biggest fall back is CHOCOLATE: I have a hard time moving since I had knee surgery 1 yr ago: Can someone suggest what I can do: I also would like a Friend to help me lost weight with:

Meds are notorious for weight gain and those who don't have to deal with it are usually the ones who say that meds don't cause weight gain... Meds and age also make a difference when i started 20 yrs ago on one med i kept the weight down but as I have aged it is
getting harder aND HARDER TO STOP IT.

If you can't lose weight, you may have a slow metabolism, or been on so many yo yo diets that your body is holding on to your fat for dear life in order to protect you from starvation.
step one, check your bmi and bmr to find out how many calories you need...i won't explain just google "bmi calculator". Step two, look up superfoods and then eat them. Step 3 get moving!! Don't rely on doctors, they are "practicing" medicine, and they're in the pockets of pharmaceutical companies...synthetic pills aren't always the answer...consider doing a detox cleanse to get your body ready to except nutrients, you'll look and feel years younger. Good Luck!

Fay W I feel your pain I have somthing wrong with me too. I think some of the medicines I am taking are slowing down my metabolism. Because so many people must lie about what they eat even when you keep an accurate diary of your food for a week nobody believes you. It is frustrating.

This is all fine and well, but what about those of us who aren't overweight, and want to trim up? I eat breakfast, hate soda, don't drink, and sometimes excercise. I eat healthy food and park farther away from stores to walk just a little more. How do I loose that extra 5 or 10 pounds?
28. Posted by fay w on Fri, Oct 26, 2007, 8:41 am PDT
that 5 or 10 lbs are the worst to get rid of. you almost have to quit eating all together or get on the tread mill and go for it and it will also trim you up also a high protein diet for 5 or 6 days will do it also. also the book called "Dr. Gott's"no flour,no sugar diet is a great way to go.my husband and son are on this and this is the way i cook thay have lost . my problem is still meds. Darn
