I make smoothies at home and was afraid to order out. You've given me information to arm me when I go out and order. At home I use soymilk and freeze blueberries and bananas to have when they're not plentiful at the market.

Beware of guarana -- you can have a horrible allergic reaction to it even if you're not prone to food allergies. I took it once and a sudden onset of severe headache and seeing tracers in my field of vision -- I'm lucky I wasn't driving. Most people who try an energy drink or smoothie with additives try them for the first time while at work or on the road -- very dangerous if you're trying a supplement for the first time.

well you've written about those uses of apple cider vinegar..are those uses only applicable with apple cider vinegar. what about other kinds of vinegar like those from coconut and sugar cane in particular? do they have the same effect?

be creative ... and order your smoothie your way ( like at burger king).. i order them with my favorite fruits and water... no yogurt cept on occasion...no soy because i dont know it it s gmo and no fruit jucies....if you go add fiber... and drink extra water... i get green tea matcha with water and ice if the matcha is not sweetened i add stevia ... better if it doesnt have sweetener ( it gives you more control......
juice ot i[ os god for acai... i add blueberries bananas and grapes because they make a lot of liquid. and apples sometimes and water all the time ...delicious control your fats and sugars

Skip the commercial smoothies altogether--it's easy, cheaper, and healthier to make one at home. Start by putting 1/2 cup of low fat vanilla yogurt in your blender. Add 1/2 C. of frozen fruit (this makes it cold without watering it down with ice); the berry mix from Trader Joe's is super! Add 2-4 T. 100 % fruit juice or milk. You can thrown in half a banana or whatever fresh fruit you have on hand, too. If the fruit you use is tart, add a 2-3 t. honey. Drink one of these in the morning, and you'll feel energized and satisfied until lunchtime.

In defense of Peanutbutter Moo'd, I'd like to point out that while it may have 11 grams of fat, that's still less than 20% of the total cals from fat and I believe being from peanut butter, they're at least not grams of saturated fat. In addition, it does have some protein value and with the fiber boost,I find it a meal's worth. I'm stickin' with my PB Moo'd. :)

This is a good story and help people not to blindly trust that all smoothies are good for you. I like your reasoning of making the small your new large. I plan to put this into action. Thanks again, it was very informative.

I always make the same smoothie every morning. It's just your basic strawberry, simple- Frozen strawberries, milk, and splenda. I mix it up and I'm good to go. That's my routine and I'm stickin with it. I don't need the do's and dont's of how to choose the right one.

So, this is great for people trying to lose weight but that is a bias that does not apply to all. You don't mention the protein levels in the Hulk. I am in the gym an average of 12-14 hours a week and another 10 running in the Texas mid-day heat. 1,900 calories in one serving sounds amazing so long as the sugars aren't too high and the protein level is adequate. I mean, I consume an average of 5,000 calories a day with a 32 inch waistline. I'm struggling not to lose weight. I know it may seem as if I have all the time in the world to stay active but that's because I choose to do so. That's why at 26 I feel stronger and more fit than I was when I was when I was 18. Oh yeah, I'm a vegetarian. It's all about what work you're willing to put in.

Replace with fat-free yogurt and you will lose the benefits of the vitamins. If you don't have some fat with your fruits and veggies, you negate the value of eating the fruits and veggies. Calories in - more calories out DOESN"T always equal weight loss, it's not that simple.

I absolutley love jamba juice. Their diet smoothies are good, too! If you get the 1,906 like in the strwberry hulk you may be in alot of trouble if you are trying to lose weight. It may be good, but think of the consiquinces. It should be good but healthy. If you can't say it, don't drink it.

may the fattys get fatter and the ones who actually read the nutrition facts get thinner! stupid fat people deserve to be fat for not checking what they are stuffing down their throat!

I always enjoy reading the nutritional information that Booster Juice provides on each and every one of it's smoothies. I don't often change my order up there, but it's nice to know that what I am ordering is in available for me to look over and not a big nasty surprise!

Those were all painfully obvious. Of course the ones made with actual fruit would be better for you then the ones made with artifical flavors or choclate, not to mention nowdays every place you walk into has a chart of nutritional value and calories for each of the products they sell.
I don't get what "small is the new large" even means when people say that, does that mean I need to have a small smoothe all the time because the new fad is to have small smoothes? That confused me.
I also find it hard to believe that it's so necessary to watch out for what smoothe you're drinking. Obviously you chose the choclate one because you don't really care about it being healthy, you just want the flavor.
I understand what the article is trying to get at but for me, think I'm just gonna stick with reading the signs and choosing whichever sounds the tastiest that day, since I don't go out for smoothes often anyway.

Thanks Runt. I was going to comment to streeter_n that those who are brainless can't lose any more brain cells but your post was more politically correct :)
