My favorite smoothie is frozen blueberries, frozen strawberris, soy milk and non-fat plain yogurt (No need to add ice cubes since the fruit is frozen). It is so yummy and so good for you.

If you really want to increase the nutrition level of a smoothie, make it a green smoothie (add kale, spinach, baby greens, etc) and add soy protein powder.

I love to make smoothies at home I usually use ornage, frozen banana, ice, yogurt, and ice cubes. I consider smoothies are good for you and can go with a light meal.

This makes no sense, use artificially flavored fat free yogurt in one but buttermilk in another?
Just use skim milk or fresh juice as a base. you don't need any sweetner with pineapple juice!
lousy article

For the person who can't have seeds. Try watermelon, cherries, honeydue, cantalope. A great one is to use peaches and vanilla fat free yogurt, very yummy. Blueberries work great. I don't care for raspberries etc, they leave too many seeds. Mango, banana is great too. Or try condensed orange juice with fat free vanilla ice cream. Tastes like a creamsicle.
For the person about banana's. I don't care for them either, they are pretty yuck. So to thicken tour smoothie try some tofu. Make sure you get the silk kind, works great.

I think the smoothies at reatilers are bit more healthier depending on what you get in it. Most of the top smoothie joints will let you know the nutritional value (protein, carbs, calories, etc.) Get a protein boost or energy boost to help burn calories. Stay away from the ones that are obviously more delicious sounding

Telling people to have artificially sweetened smoothies is an oxymoron. Artificial sweeteners can cause major health risks and cause people to crave more carbs. So if you are trying to be healthy you are better off having organic low fat yogurt or non with yogurt that has no rBST or rBGH (Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone). It is only like 150 calories for 8 oz. which is better then this pages whooping 240. I suggest reading more up on "healthy" foods.

cbicdemos- instead of banana, try 1/2 a galia or honeydew melon for a really fluffy, healthier drink.
This article, although encouraging people to make better choices, has some bad information.
Never use artificial sweeteners. Try a little date or agave syrup (low GI) instead.
Milk doesn't belong in smoothies. Use banana, melon instead. If you absolutely need a 'milk' use rice milk. No hormones, no blood, no pus, safe for allergy sufferers and far lower in calories.
Smoothies are about being healthy. Milk and sugar don't belong in a smoothie. If you need them in there, you haven't made a good smoothie.
Try whizzing up a banana, some strawberries and a melon. Add ice-cubes. Tastes divine!

cheryl - try cherries, peaches, plums...- freeze the fruit first if not already frozen - it'll keep the smoothie thicker. maybe even use apples (cored and peeled)???

Haha. When I saw this on the homepage I thought of my love for smoothies and milkshakes fresh from my blender at home. Almost every other day we use it to make something delicious. A family favorite, courtesy of yours truly, is a blend of frozen strawberries and grapes, (frozen or unfrozen) bananas, and a bit of water. Depending on who you are serving you can put in the right amount of ingredients. And as for the type of grapes, I prefer purple because they are sweeters.
As you can tell, no sugar is added, so this is incredibly healthy, unless there is something against self-frozen fruit which has nothing added to it.
Try it sometime, it's great.
(I like it icy, but if you want a smoothie or milkshake, add more water or milk.)

you can use all different kinds of fruits for smoothies! I prefer unsing juice instead of milk or yogurt (personal preference) much lighter that way!! Also buying fresh fruit is much better healthwise and taste wise. throw your choice (or all) of fruit--blueberries, mangos, strawberries, bananas, etc ice and some fruit juice- your preference - in a blender. Perfect for a hot summer day!!!

I always make my smoothie with just fruit, and I love them. I buy frozen strawberries, peaches, and blue berries. Drop a bit of each one in, not very many blue berries but an equal amount of strawberry to peach ratio, and blend in my bullet. This by far is my fave, as well as all my friends who ask for one almost as soon as they walk in the door. You can also mix it up with a bag of mixed tropical fruits and find your own recipe.

For Sabrina,
I make smoothies year round, so if you would like to save the smoothie for later, just add lemon or lime juice to prevent the juice from turning to a brownish color (the way an apple does when you are eating it). Also, I like to keep the batch I make in the freezer to hold its firmness, then take it out at least 10-15 minutes before I drink it again so it won't be too frozen.

My favorite energy-boost smoothie is made of non-fat plain yogurt, frozen berries (strawberries, raspberries, cherries, or blueberries), a dash of pomegranate juice, a few ice cubes, and a small amount of Splenda. Voila! It's very filling and I often have it for dinner.

Wow! My favorite breakfast food and/or evening snack (to beat my evening sweet tooth)!!
I find it best to grab the bags of frozen fruit, unsweetened of course, like black cherries, mango, peaches, strawberries, and blueberries to name a few. Then mix / match 1 type of frozen fruit w/ 1 container of flavored, low fat, low calorie yogurt, 4-6 ice cubes and a cup or two of Light Vanilla flavored Silk.
If I need some protein (mainly in the A.M.) I add a scoop or two of whey protein. My personal favorite is Strawberry flavored, of course.
Also, to increase my antioxidants, I also replace a fruit w/ Sambazon brand Acai Berry puree (also found in the freezer dept - Whole Foods).
Just mix your favorite fruits (frozen if possible), blend, and ENJOY!!

To the person, who asked for banana-free smoothies: Try fat free yogurt instead of bananas and you will be fine. Bananas are added for flavor and for the "smooth" texture of the smoothie. You can achieve the same with yougurt.
