I think I might try this when I have a craving considering it's so hard to eat healthy when you're always on the go

I don't agree with this article. All cravings are mental. If you are weak, give in to this article, however way the author justifies. If you are strong enough, you will resist the cravings and they will go away. The only difference is you have not put junk in your body and try to justify, as this article does. Good luck

Hmmm. How about just eating the thing you crave but one serving? Forget the low-fat alternative. Eat the full-fat one, but not by the shovel full. It's all about portion control. =)

I agree completely about the potato chip comment. I had a quarter of a bag of Lays sitting in front of me as I worked at my desk, and before I realized it, my fingers brushed the bottom of the bag. Didn't mean to eat ALL of them...

Giving in to a craving once in awhile is okay, especially mentally. I agree with others--it's portion control and excercise that keep the extra pounds off. Also, I prefer to eat the "real deal"--like butter versus margarine and sugar instead of those artificial sweeteners. If used in moderation natural products are a better choice than processed foods or additives.

I agree with the article... if you try to ignore cravings, you will lose and end up overindulging in the end! For example, when I am craving pizza, I avoid it as long as I can, but then, when it is in my face, I will eat 4 slices! If I would just have a slice when I begin to crave it, I wouldn't feel so pizza-deprived that I stuff my face! Enjoy what you like, but keep the portions under control.

Nothing beats good old fashioned diet and exercise. We can all pick apart the recommendations above, but I do agree with one thing, portion control. I mean lets face it, if you bought an entire bag of chips of tub of ice cream, you'd likely have no control and go for it. At least with the above, the portions are controlled

For the "ONLY chocolate" thing...the Hershey bar isn't the only alternative..or the best either..Especially during the scorching summer heat it would be better for a chocolate lover to indulge their selves in a Fudgesicle bar, they're only 65 calories (which means you could probably have about 2 or 3 to equal the amount of calories as the 200 calorie chocolate bar mentioned above) and it's a perfect treat for people trying to cut calories and just HAVE to have that chocolate, it taste like a frozen chocolate bar basically, I don't like chocolate myself very much at all, but I keep a box of it in the fridge just in case I have a random craving for it. For the "Only Ice Cream" one, I was suprised to see some of the "alternative" choices on here weren't really the better ones for people trying to maintain or lose weight or cut calories at all. But anyways, I know this is like a death trap but Mcdonalds has a very good indeed vanilla ice cream cone that's only 150 calories instead of the 230-40 calorie ice cream bar at dairy queen, so if you can resist to not order anything else at MikkiD's , then you just saved yourself about 90 cals. Another healthy alternative for the "only cookies" would be to get a chewy granola bar, only about 2 bucks for a box of 10 at your local grocery. They're only 90 calories and I'd let them take the place of cookies cause I

I love ice cream. I ration myself to eating it only on the last calendar day of the month, but I can eat all I want on that day . . . but that day only.

You should eat what you crave because you will most likely over indulge with another food trying to satisfy what you crave for. A sensible serving of your favorite craving will satisfy you and help you move on to healthier choices. You can't fool your emotions and cravings are usually mostly about emotions.

I think the article is interesting and make sense...however it sounds better than actually doing it. I love sweets and when I can eat the healthier portions i do, but it takes effort..so my advise is to discipline yourself to the healthier portions and choices and yes exercise...for me I'm developing a meal plan, creating grocery list and pray that I can stick to it. Also, be aware of the favorite coworker who just love to bring in donuts, etc. this will get you in trouble.

I like this article...even though the pros & cons. I'm sure that most of you who read this are weight fanatics: obsesed with your weight or trying to loose weight. I was once anorexic at age 15, pretty hard time in my life and for my family. It was had eating...through the years I have gotten better I went five years without eating chocolate...I still don't eat chips or ice cream. I now try my hardest to enjoy life in moderation like the article says. Sure you want to care about your self but you have to eat... and the body needs fats(the healthier ones).

I believe this a good article it shows if you have a certain crave for sweets small portions is a good idea as long you know your limit as far as how much to eat is fine. Also eating fruits and vegetables is a smart health choice soon you can eat what you crave just be careful on how much you eat.

I've always been told that you can't deprive your body or else you'll go overboard when you get the chance. People have told me indulge maybe once a week, but don't go overboard. If you have to have that ice cream do it on a Sunday, etc. etc.

So many of your articles have seemed to be about avoiding ridiculous things. "Don't eat a triple whopper with extra cheese and bacon!" But I actually found this one to be useful. Good advice. Thank you.

here is how i have been losing weight, i wake up, have a healthly bowl of cereal, if im hungry in between i eat fruit. for lunch i eat a sandwhich with anything on it, if you really like mayonaise, put very little on, but no cheese. For dinner I eat something with a lot of protein, and a salad with red wine vinegar. red wine is delicious, and you can put in a salad as much as you want and its still healthy. mustard is also a big part of my diet, so are hot peppers...for snack or dessert, a little whipped cream with strawberries can really fill your urge to have ice cream.

Dude, if you are going to fill your cravings, you should fill it with something REALLY good. If you want a Haagan Daz, eat Haagen Daz, just don't eat the whole pint. Substituting "healthy versions" of what you really want can do alomost as much damage as complete deprivation, because you haven't truly satisfied the craving.
