Oregano is a great meat condiment. Use it on meatballs, on chicken and specially on pork with lots of garlic and lemon juice to marinate and then bake.
Cinammon is also great on farina. Prepare Farina with milk instead of water, sweeten it with sugar or splenda and add a little cinammon it is delicious.
Enjoy

yeah, on the dried herb part, it's true they won't spoil very quickly, so on that basis they do keep for just about ever. but, the flavor is packed away in the herb/spice's oils, which are extremely volatile, which means that they dissipate. your best bet is to keep things as whole as possible, especially spices. ground herbs and spices will only keep for about 2-6 months and have their full flavor and nutrition. but whole ones can be kept up to a year. pods and nuts like cardomom and nutmeg can be kept longer, as long as they stay dry, cool, and away from light, like all of your spices. moisture and heat add to the dissipation of the oils, and many nutrients are light-sensitive, meaning they'll break down with prolonged exposure to light.

to churrass- i bet churrass that you never really thought much about it either. in the eastern spice countries, spices were used for medicinal purposes and for flavor, but in the western countries, it was mostly flavor they were after. that's why we had the great explorers, they were looking to get rich because of the high market for spices, mostly for flavor. do you think king lois really cared that ginger and ginkgo were anti-inflammatory and good for the overall immune system? heck no! he just knew that his cooks put it in his food, and it tasted good, so he wanted more.
so basically, spices in the east- flavor medicine.

Rugjoy101, you hit the mark. Anything and everything can have some sort of health claim/miracle cure/magic pill, just follow the money. AlphaF stated it best "Moderation is the key" because even a good thing can be bad for you.

Nice tips! I used all of these except Tumeric. I got some for a recipe and wasn't sure what else to use it in. I saw all the tips from the readers too. I will now use it more.

I am finding out more and more about the foods that I have eaten all of my life. I am almost 72 and grew up on white potatoes, gravy, fried chicken, lots of macaroni also. One of the finest "snacks" after school was to have bread, butter, and syrup sandwich, or minute fudge.I never had broccoli, or fresh spinach. Now I am finding out about all the different spices, and such things so cous cous salad, and quinoa, which is extremely nutricious (sp?). The comments about studies on how various spices effect our bodies is a wise suggestion.
