For diabetics: Fiber cuts carbs, gram for gram. Enjoy your watermelon with a big cup of water mixed with a few heaping tablespoons of BeneFiber. (Watch out for BeneFiber knock-offs. Many contain gluten, which is just what it sounds like -- the gluey, yucky stuff that keeps all the crap in your body and stuck to your colon.)

They grow them here, and they are sweet..I think now they are coming in from Mexico..great news for me, I am on a heart diet..and fruits and veggies are my main diet, lots less meat and potatoes.I grow my own tomatoes, and have some getting ripe. I will buy me a melon this week..I just thought it was a treat, now it will really be enjoyed, for my health also..good news here

I always have liked to sprinkle just a little bit of salt on my watermelon slices. Believe it or not, the salt makes it more flavorful, not at all a salty flavor, just more melon flavor. Try it. Just a tiny sprinkling. :)
In regards to the nutrients available in watermelon, no wonder pregnant women crave it! I sure do!

when traveling for long distances, watermelon and oranges are good to have for snacking on because it will help you to not drink as much water which can slow down your trip. meaning, you have to make more stops to go to the bathroom. when you drink the water, it just goes right through you as opposed to eating the watermelon or orange which has to be processed in your stomach and allows you to not go to the bathroom too often. plus, it's a great snack, it's portable and healthy and it's filling. whenever i travelled, my mom always packed some fruit (usually oranges and watermelons) for me to eat because she knows i hate public bathrooms. so next time you have that dreaded road trip this summer, the night before cut up some watermelon or make orange smiles and place in the fridge in a baggie. another plus, kids love orange smiles and watermelon chunks because they are sweet and fun to eat! happy travels!!

Unfortunately the high glycemic content outweighs the nutritional values, so eat watermelon---but only a very small slice at a time. Eating too much sugar at once automatically lifts up your blood-sugar levels, which then tells your pancreas to produce insulin to combat it. The catch is that the pancreas doesn't know when to stop making the insulin, it makes too much, and that causes you for a brief time to become a diabetic. !!!
After the blood-sugar has been taken care of by the needed amount of insulin, there is still a lot of insulin left over which your body doesn't know what to do with, and so stores it in FAT cells.
The trick, then, is to eat very small amounts of sugar at a time to keep the blood-sugar level at a good low.
