Watermelon. Good for us, yes, but do NOT eat this fruit first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Due to it's HIGH glycemic index, you will be hypoglycemic within two hours and will be forced to eat again. Eat watermelon or other melons only after eating a protein.

I love summer because watermelon is widely available and it tastes the best during this season. I just love eating fruits and this is a healthy but guilt-free way of enjoying fruit shakes on hot summer days. But in my case, my mom advised me not to eat watermelon on the 1st 3 months after my operation, i don't know the reason behind it, but I guess it atleast works for me...:-)

my chinese husband uses the white part without the outer peel to make a delicious soup. He uses chicken stock, onions, and cilantro as well as anything else that strikes his fancy. I was amazed

This is a great article. Watermelon has always been a fruits that I try to avoid do its high water weight affect, but all of the nutritional benefits listed above outweight the short-term weight gain.

This is extremely great information on watermelon. Not that I will remember every nutrient learned; I will remember how great it is for every body and the facts on the white and yellow parts of the melon tips it all off! This is invaluable information. Why don't doctors preach about eating quality food such as the watermelon? Thanks
Beware of watermelons grown in Hermiston, Oregon. This is too close to the Hanford Nuclear facility (where the radioactive waste has leaked into the ground) and the Umatilla Army Weapons Depot (where God knows what has leaked into the ground). The watermelons grown here are a health hazard. Don't buy Hermiston watermelons or anything else grown in that region.

Way to go watermelon! I love watermelon too, because it isn't very sticky either, like on your fingers when you're done with it. Oranges are really sticky.

It is great that watermelon has such a high water content (referring to previous comment) because most people don't drink enough water as it is and you pee it out anyways (water weight? seriously diet conscious).

Watermelon is very good for you true but the article failed to tell more about the lycopene. It comes from the red melons, not the yellow. It is also more healthy and gives you a better pick me up than coffee.

Definitely excited about this one. Watermelon season is my favorite time of year. My best friend and I often go to Gelsons' and buy a quarter of a melon and cut it in half to eat for lunch. Yum! Glad to know it's good for me too now!
