Super-easy, tried and true recipe. I thought everyone knew how to make basic Chicken Noodle soup, but apparently that's not the case :-) Good recipe, easy to make, and much healthier (and tastier) than the canned versions.

How much celery are we supposed to use? I don't see celery listed in the ingredient list but it is in the first part of the steps. Thanks

Reames Frozen Noodles are the best and most convenient to use, full disclosure- I work for Reames, but our noodles are made like you would at home.

Add lots of fresh dill & it will take the soup & broth to a new level. I also add parsnip, turnip & rutabaga & do not saute anything in oil--just bring the liquid to a boil, reduce to a simmer & add all the goodies.

Could you use boneless chicken breasts instead of a whole chicken? I don't want to deal with pulling it apart, picking out bones, etc.

i am a culinary arts student, and this is similar to the same recipe that we were given last semester for chicken noodle soup.. when skimming the fat off the top, you can use a few papertowels to absorb the fat/grease.

Easy chicken and Dumplings- Follow this recipe except omit egg noodles. Mix 2 cups Bisquick with 2/3 cup milk. Drop spoonfuls into soup and cook uncovered 10 mins. Then turn heat down to simmer and cover for 10 more mins. It's delicious!!!!

only thing different i like to do is to make my noodles seperately. hate soggy noodles. if seperate then noodles will always be fresh. also cook them 1 min under. hot soup will cook them last minute.

I would definitely substitute extra virgen olive oil for the vegetable oil to make it more heart healthy

I make this same basic recipie but I add cut up potatoes and zucchini to the onions, celery (use some of the leaves), carrots. And, right before finishing the soup, I add chopped fresh spinach. Sometimes I throw in green beans and corn. Yummy! Makes it a little heartier & healthier and will fill you up. Also, you can make a healther version and don't saute the vegs in oil. Just add everything at once and cook.

it seems really stupid to have to make the broth ahead of time...all you need to do is cook the chicken youre using for the soup-same result...and leaving some fat on the chicken is ok...i never cook the veggies agead of time-instead i add them the last 30 min of simmering and they become nice and tender

I, too, am from Jasper,FL & am aware of Art's wonderful family. This recipe, as well as all of his recipes, is wonderful!!! I will admit to "cutting" some corners, but it still turned out great!! I love to watch Art on Oprah & I try to see him whenerver he is backhome. If you don't have any of his books.....go out & BUY them!!! You won't regret it, I promise!!

I use boneless, skinless thighs. Remove fat before putting in water. Saves a lot of time. And no degreaseing.
