This looks great. I can attest that grilled fruit with brown sugar is delicious, I have been doing it for years. When the fruit cooks, the sugar caremelizes and gives it an unbelievable flavor. Its healthier than most baked deserts too.

If the only way you can entice your kids to eat fruit is to slather it with oil and sugar, then you may as well give them Fruit Rollups or something equally as "healthy".

Sounds Terrible. Just gimme the fruit like it is. And you said it robert w, who the heck would eat hot fruit straight without being in a pie or something??

Thin for a reason - where in this article does it state, or even hint, that the only way to entice kids to eat fruit is to "slather it in oil and sugar" - try actually READING the article!!

Fruit Kabobs are really yummy. Instead of using oil use lowfat margarine. It will give it the same brown crisp. For those of you that think its not healthy.

I think it sounds good. I went camping a few weeks ago and we cored some apples, put some cinnamon and sugar in the middle, wrapped then in tin foil and it was sooooo good!

It mentions kids here:
"I chose this particular dessert recipe with kids in mind. Threading the fruit onto the skewers can be a great way to get the kids involved with meal preparation and reinforces an appreciation for fruit in their diet. From my experience, kids love kebabs. Just make sure, depending on the child's age, that you supervise them when served."
BUT BUT BUT ... it's dessert. If you're going to serve your kids dessert it would be better to serve them the natural sugar rather than a processed sugar. And frankly 3tbsp oil, sugar and cinnamon is hardly a "slathering" but if it bothers you .. I bet you can easily add the oil and sugar to "taste".

Oh my...you people have nothing better to bark at! Why don't you focus your stress toward something meaningful like aid for the people of the bridge disaster in Minnesota! For crying out loud its not national policy, it's fruit!!

i am so glad you posted this recipe. I was cooking with my friends (we call it a "food network challenge") for desert i grilled pineapple. i grilled an assortmet of other fruits as well and plated it with my new favorite, mango sorbet. i got a 96 on it based on theme, originality, TASTE! (most important), and more. I heard bobby flay talk about grilling fruits, so i gave it my own twist by glazing it in honey before grilling. it is so easy, afourteen year old (like myself) can do it!

First, to those who cringe at the idea of hot fruit, just go dribble some more of that A1 sauce on that piece of meat on your plate. Second, you can remove both the oil and sugar content if you like and simply marinate in a juice of some kind, preferably a natural juice and use the cinnamon and maybe add some nutmeg or whatever you feel like. And to Yolanda U, well done, but try some other flavors also, pineapple on coconut ice cream, or even some raspberry sherbert.... RECIPES.... are not to be blindly followed, but to inspire creativity... again to those who arent just grab another budweiser and drop your chunk of meat on the grill, am sure its the best way to have a meal anyway....
